Friday on The Robert Scott Bell Show:
A Bummer Topic To Start With – But Important
CNN’s Anthony Bourdain dead at 61 Anthony Bourdain, the gifted chef, storyteller and writer who took TV viewers around the world to explore culture, cuisine and the human condition for nearly two decades, has died. He was 61. CNN confirmed Bourdain’s death on Friday and said the cause of death was suicide. Bourdain was in France working on an upcoming episode of his award-winning CNN series, “Parts Unknown.” His close friend Eric Ripert, the French chef, found Bourdain unresponsive in his hotel room Friday morning. “It is with extraordinary sadness we can confirm the death of our friend and colleague, Anthony Bourdain,” the network said in a statement Friday morning. “His love of great adventure, new friends, fine food and drink and the remarkable stories of the world made him a unique storyteller. “His talents never ceased to amaze us and we will miss him very much. Our thoughts and prayers are with his daughter and family at this incredibly difficult time.”
Andy Spade Gives Heartbreaking Statement On Wife Kate Spade’s Death: ‘We Can’t Even Begin To Fathom Life Without Her’ Andy Spade, the husband of designer Kate Spade, is speaking publicly about his wife’s death at age 55. “Kate was the most beautiful woman in the world. She was the kindest person I’ve ever known and my best friend for 35 years,” Spade tells The New York Times on Wednesday. “My daughter and I are devastated by her loss, and can’t even begin to fathom life without her. We are deeply heartbroken and miss her already.” Spade, who is the co-founder of the Kate Spade New York fashion brand, reveals Kate had battled mental illness for years and her death comes as a shock to the family, refuting comments made by the designer’s estranged sister, Reta Saffo. “Kate suffered from depression and anxiety for many years,” he continues. “She was actively seeking help and working closely with her doctors to treat her disease, one that takes far too many lives. We were in touch with her the night before and she sounded happy. There was no indication and no warning that she would do this. It was a complete shock. And it clearly wasn’t her. There were personal demons she was battling.”
CDC: Suicides increased by more than 30 percent since 1999 in half the states More than a decade of steadily rising rates have made suicide the nation’s 10th leading cause of death and one of only three causes of death — including Alzheimer’s disease and drug overdoses — that are increasing in the U.S., according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In a report that examines trends in suicide at the state level from 1999 to 2016, the CDC says suicide rates have increased in nearly every state. In half the states, the agency found the rate rose more than 30 percent. In releasing the report — the same week fashion designer Kate Spade was found dead by suicide — CDC officials noted that more than half of those who died by suicide — 54 percent — did not have a known diagnosed mental health condition.
Golden Rice – Not So Golden….
GMO Golden Rice Lacks Nutritional Benefit Says FDA Despite claims from Big Biotech that GM golden rice will save the hungry world from its vitamin A deficiencies – surprise, surprise, it offers no nutritional benefits. But the real eye opener is – the FDA has not tried to cover up this gaffe. It is not acting as a front runner for GMOs in this instance. The FDA has “concluded its consultation process on Golden Rice by informing its current developers, the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), that Golden Rice does not meet the nutritional requirements to make a health claim,” according to Independent Science News. Keep in mind that the IRRI is propped up by the Rockefeller Foundation and is working in conjunction with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Thus, the IRRI likes to claim that they are doing this work for free and the good of humanity.

A Sad Note From Charles Krauthammer
A note to readers I have been uncharacteristically silent these past ten months. I had thought that silence would soon be coming to an end, but I’m afraid I must tell you now that fate has decided on a different course for me. In August of last year, I underwent surgery to remove a cancerous tumor in my abdomen. That operation was thought to have been a success, but it caused a cascade of secondary complications — which I have been fighting in hospital ever since. It was a long and hard fight with many setbacks, but I was steadily, if slowly, overcoming each obstacle along the way and gradually making my way back to health. However, recent tests have revealed that the cancer has returned. There was no sign of it as recently as a month ago, which means it is aggressive and spreading rapidly. My doctors tell me their best estimate is that I have only a few weeks left to live. This is the final verdict. My fight is over.
Like Cooking Shows? On Cannabis?
Netflix to Debut ‘Cooking on High,’ a New Cannabis Cooking Competition Netflix will unveil its newest original cooking show, “Cooking On High,” on June 22. The series is in the style of cooking competition programs such as “Iron Chef,” but with a particular twist — all recipes must be prepared with cannabis, and be psychoactive enough to give the celebrity judges a buzz. Hosted by YouTube wunderkind Josh Leyva, the program will highlight fellow comedian, notorious cannabis enthusiast and Cannabis Now contributor Ngaio Bealum as resident “culinary weed expert.” Bealum promises to be quite the draw, with a personality that merges comical schtick and an activist sensibility. As the Sacramento Bee reports, Bealum previously co-hosted the online TV series “Cannabis Planet” and has appeared on “The Sarah Silverman Program.” His bio page calls him “an American comedian, musician, writer, actor, activist, juggler and publisher,” with the wry note that he “was born in San Francisco to hippie parents, leading to jokes about how he got his name.”
Hour 2 – Special Guest – Josh Hendrix!
Born and raised in the Bluegrass State and a University of Kentucky alumnus, Mr. Hendrix relocated back to Central Kentucky in 2014 on a mission to help rebuild the US hemp industry. Seeing a need to bring farmers, processors, manufacturers and supporters of the industry together, Mr. Hendrix founded the Kentucky Hemp Industries Association that summer and still serves on the Board of Directors. He also became an active member of the Kentucky Hemp Industries Council where he now serves as Treasurer on the Board of Directors. In 2015 he created and became President of Hendrix Hemp, a licensed hemp producer that manages hemp cultivation on his family’s, Mayflower Farm, in Mount Sterling, KY. In early 2016 Mr. Hendrix was appointed to the Technical Advisory Council for the National Hemp Association and accepted a role on the Senior Advisory Board of the institutional trading platform for hemp, Seed CX. Currently Mr. Hendrix serves as the Director of Business Development – Domestic Production for CV Sciences, Inc. where he works with numerous universities, farmers, businesses, and organizations to help facilitate the infrastructure necessary to establish a modern domestic supply chain for hemp in the United States.
MORE GOOD NEWS ON HEMP FROM CONGRESS The momentum continues to build in support of hemp in the U.S. Congress. That’s why it is even more important for us to keep the pressure going. Just this Tuesday, the U.S. Senate unanimously passed a resolution, in honor of Hemp History Week, that recognizes hemp’s “historical relevance” and “growing economic potential” while bemoaning the fact that the US is “the only major industrialized country that restricts hemp farming.” Repeat: unanimously. Does this ever happen in our polarized and paralyzed government?
Can I hear an “Amen”? The prior week, the uber-powerful Senate Appropriations Committee passed language that would direct the USDA’s Agricultural Research Services to spend $500,000 on the development of a hemp seed bank. As Forbes’ Tom Angell discusses here, the Committee recognized hemp’s “growing importance as a crop for U.S. farmers” who have been hampered by losing access to publicly available germplasm for plant breeding purposes due to the destruction of the nation’s industrial hemp germplasm in the 1980s.
George Washington’s Mount Vernon Plants Industrial Hemp Project to Illuminate Washington’s Role as aFarmer Mount Vernon recently planted an industrial cultivar of hemp on the four-acre Pioneer Farm site to expand its interpretation of George Washington’s role as an enterprising farmer. Under the 2015 Industrial Hemp Law enacted by the Virginia General Assembly and working with the Dr. Michael Timko with the industrial hemp research program of the University of Virginia, Dean Norton, planted industrial hemp seeds across a 1,000-square- foot area. As the first historic home of the founding fathers to plant hemp, Mount Vernon will use the plant as an interpretative tool to help better tell the story of Washington’s role as a farmer. Once harvested, Mount Vernon will use the hemp to provide fiber-making demonstrations in late summer. “Through this program, we have been able to return a primary crop to Mount Vernon that has not been grown since Washington’s time which is extraordinary,” said Mount Vernon director of horticulture, Dean Norton. “The processing of hemp will help to expand our rich agricultural interpretive program.”
Congress Launches Bipartisan STATES Act To Protect Legal Cannabis Once And For All After many months of threatening stances from U.S. Attorney General and noted weed-hater Jeff Sessions, a group of bipartisan lawmakers have introduced a bill aimed to guard states’ legal cannabis industries for good. On Thursday, Senators Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Cory Gardner (R-CO) announced the introduction of the Strengthening the Tenth Amendment Through Entrusting States (STATES) Act, which seeks to protectstates that legalize marijuana from federal interference. Representatives David Joyce (R-OH) and Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) also announced the introduction of a companion bill in the House today. According to the bill’s cosponsors, the STATES Act would protect states from federal interference by creating an exemption to the U.S. Controlled Substances Act, which prohibits marijuana alongside dangerous drugs like heroin (and some basically safe ones like LSD), for those states that have enacted legal cannabis laws, and would remove industrial hemp from the Controlled Substances Act entirely.

Question of The Day!
I’ve written to you once before and heard your reply online. I have another question. Is ringworm rash one type of candida? I have been getting it every summer for the last five or six years. Sometimes the rash stays for more than a month, sometimes for only a couple weeks. What can I do to prevent it? I have a couple spots on my leg for more than a week now. I really want to get rid of it. Looking forward to your advice. Thank you.

Leave Those Tonsils Alone!
Researchers Say Children With Removed Tonsils Are 3 Times More Likely To Get Sick Surgery to remove tonsils and adenoids often seem like a healthy decision, but a new study suggests that this might backfire in a big way. What Is The Link Between Tonsils And Illnesses? Researchers discovered that the removal of tonsils and adenoids in childhood often increases the risk of allergies and other upper respiratory tract illnesses. A child who has a tonsillectomy was three times more likely to get diseases in the upper respiratory tract, such as asthma and pneumonia. The findings were published in a study on June 7 in the Journal of the American Medical Association Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery. “We calculated disease risks depending on whether adenoids, tonsils or both were removed in the first nine years of life because this is when these tissues are most active in the developing immune system,” said coauthor Dr. Sean Byars.
