Thursday on The Robert Scott Bell Show:

Sacred Fire of Liberty!

It’s that time of the week where we get to explore the political healing that this country needs so desperately! Jonathan Emord is back to help us dissect the latest political news that’s fit to print:

Sen. Rick Scott calls for investigation into WHO ‘helping China cover up’ coronavirus  Florida Republican Sen. Rick Scott on Tuesday called on Congress to investigate the World Health Organization (WHO) for its early handling of the coronavirus outbreak that began in China, and allegations the WHO helped China conceal the severity of the virus.Scott described his concerns about the WHO’s handling of the virus in a statement shared on his Senate website.“The mission of the WHO is to get public health information to the world so every country can make the best decisions to keep their citizens safe. When it comes to Coronavirus, the WHO failed. They need to be held accountable for their role in promoting misinformation and helping Communist China cover up a global pandemic,” Scott said.”We know Communist China is lying about how many cases and deaths they have, what they knew and when they knew it – and the WHO never bothered to investigate further. Their inaction cost lives.”Scott called on Congress to open an investigation of the WHO, once it comes back in session, “To review whether American taxpayers should continue to spend millions of dollars every year to fund an organization that willfully parroted propaganda from the Chinese Communist Party.”

Trump says he’d take Biden’s call on coronavirus: ‘I’d love to speak to him’ President Trump said on Wednesday night that he’d love to hear from former Vice President Joseph R. Biden about fighting the coronavirus. No, really.“Sure. Oh absolutely, I’d love to speak to him,” Mr. Trump said at the White House coronavirus briefing. “If he’d like to call, I’d absolutely take his call.”“Vice President Biden has been extending his advice for months, and he did so again on the air last night,” said deputy campaign manager Kate Bedingfied. “As he has said repeatedly, Donald Trump is not accountable for coronavirus itself — but he is accountable for the federal government’s slow and chaotic response to this outbreak.”Mr. Trump said again that he inherited a “broken” system to respond to widespread infectious disease outbreaks. But he said he’d be happy to speak with Mr. Biden, whom he regularly ridicules as “Sleepy Joe.”“I always found him to be a nice guy; I don’t know him very well, frankly,” he said. “But I think he’s probably a nice guy.”

Taking constitutional rights seriously during COVID-19 pandemic“If the provisions of the Constitution be not upheld when they pinch as well as when they comfort, they may as well be abandoned.”— Justice George Sutherland (1862-1942)In his 2008 book “Taking Rights Seriously,” the late professor Ronald Dworkin explored the origins and governmental treatment of human liberty. He argued that Thomas Jefferson — who wrote the Declaration of Independence — and James Madison — the scrivener at the Constitutional Convention and the author of the Bill of Rights — were clear in their articulations that the premise of America at its birth is that our rights are personal and natural because they come from our humanity, not from the government.Dworkin also recognized that government, which is essentially the negation of liberty, is only moral and valid when it enjoys the consent of the governed, respects individual rights as inalienable and interferes with them only after it proves fault to a jury at a fair trial.

Texas Governor Deems Religious Services Essential As authorities arrest pastors for holding Sunday services in defiance of social distancing orders, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced Tuesday that religious services are to be considered essential in his state.Abbott issued an executive order relating to statewide continuity of essential services and activities during the coronavirus pandemic. The order mandated that all Texans will minimize social gatherings and in-person contact with people who are not in the same household, and, among other statutes, clarified that religious services conducted in churches, congregations, and houses of worship are to be considered essential services.“‘Essential services’ shall consist of everything listed by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in its Guidance on the Essential Critical Infrastructure Workforce, Version 2.0, plus religious services conducted in churches, congregations, and houses of worship,” the order stated. “Other essential services may be added to this list with the approval of the Texas Division of Emergency Management.”

John Kennedy: I’m not interested in more of Nancy Pelosi’s ‘spending porn’ Sen. John Kennedy, Louisiana Republican, on Wednesday said he’s not interested in seeing any more “spending porn” from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi or anyone else on Capitol Hill.“I’m not interested in any more of Speaker’s Pelosi’s spending porn — or any other member of Congress for that matter,” Mr. Kennedy said on “Fox & Friends.”He said the $2.2 trillion rescue package Congress passed in response to the coronavirus outbreak should be allowed to work, saying that with additional leverage the price tag is even higher.“Unless you were throwing the Frisbee in the quad during Econ 101, deficits matter,” he said.House Democrats had offered their own $2.5 trillion ante during the debate that included provisions tied to collective bargaining power and carbon emissions.Louisiana has emerged as a major hot spot in the escalating coronavirus outbreak. Officials on Tuesday reported a 30% increase in new infections over 24 hours.

Democrats push for green initiatives in coronavirus infrastructure package House Democrats want a green infrastructure plan at the forefront of the phase four coronavirus package they are working on while Congress is out of session, despite the backlash they received over their phase three proposals.Rep. Peter DeFazio, chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, acknowledged Republicans will likely push back on a greener approach to infrastructure.“There are going to be objections to this,” he said. “Mitch McConnell made fun of my provisions — that the airlines agreed to — to reduce their carbon pollution dramatically and quickly.”“But in rebuilding our infrastructure, we have a unique opportunity. No one disagrees it needs to be rebuilt. Rebuild it in a way that looks to the future, the 21st century, and also deals with climate change and carbon pollution at the same time. It’s a no-brainer from my perspective,” he added.

Hour 2  – Special Guest Dr. Sherri Tenpenny

Dr. Sherri J. Tenpenny, is the founder of Tenpenny Integrative Medical Center, a clinic first established in Strongsville, Ohio in 1996 under the name of OsteoMed II. Her goal is to provide the best of integrative medicine in Cleveland, Ohio. Prior to her career in alternative medicine, Dr. Tenpenny served as Director of the Emergency Department at Blanchard Valley Regional Hospital Center in Findlay, Ohio, from 1987 to 1995. In 1994, she and a partner opened OsteoMed, a medical practice in Findlay limited to the specialty of osteopathic manipulative medicine. In 1996, Dr. Tenpenny moved to Strongsville, Ohio, expanding her practice to include traditional, complementary and preventive medicine. Dr. Tenpenny is board certified in three medical specialties. She was boarded in Emergency Medicine from 1995 to 2006. She chose to not re-certify in Emergency Medicine – a time consuming and expensive undertaking – because she never plans to work again within Emergency Medicine.  She has been board certified in Osteopathic Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine (AOBNMM) since 1995 and became board certified in Integrative and Holistic Medicine in 2012 (ABIHM).

Coronavirus Pt 2: ‘Never Let a Good Crisis Go to Waste’, Replay Until recently, the concept of mandatory and mass vaccination has been only a worrisome possibility. Vaccination laws are passed and monitored at the state level, not at the federal level. But while the country was still struggling to recover from the events of September 11, 2001, and the bioterrorism scares of smallpox and anthrax threats, the groundwork to make vaccines mandatory began to change in 2003, during President George W. Bush’s State of the Union Address. On that fateful night, Bush revealed the creation of Project BioShield, a comprehensive effort to develop and make available modern, effective drugs and vaccines to protect against attack by biological and chemical weapons.Project BioShield set forth three major components: Creation of a permanent ‘indefinite funding authority to spur development of ‘medical countermeasures enabling the government to purchase vaccines and other therapies as soon as experts believe that they can be made safe and effective’Conferred new authority to the NIH to speed research and development of drugs and vaccines that would counter bioterrorism threats and,Authorized emergency ‘fast track provisions for the release of treatments—drugs and vaccines—still waiting for approval by the FDA ‘in the event of an emergency.’

The ‘game changer’ that wasn’t: Company falsely claimed FDA authorization for coronavirus blood test The company claimed it would distribute the first coronavirus antibody test authorized by the US Food and Drug Administration. It promised to detect current and past infections in as little as two minutes — with just a tiny amount of blood.”This is a game changer,” said the company, Bodysphere, in a statement on Tuesday. It promised to deliver millions of test kits within weeks.Multiple news outlets reported the announcement. The company’s website, with the words “MADE IN USA” beneath a slick logo, showcased photos of the test, including the FDA logo plastered on its box.And in a tweet on Monday, Bodysphere said: “It is not the first time we will play a major role in changing the world.”But the company’s claims of an FDA-authorized coronavirus antibody test have been explicitly refuted by the FDA. Bodysphere said Tuesday that the serology test had received what is known as an Emergency Use Authorization from the FDA. Serology is another word for the study of blood, and the company claimed the test could detect antibodies with a process as simple as a glucose test.

Fauci’s security is stepped up as doctor and face of U.S. coronavirus response receives threats Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious-diseases expert and the face of the U.S. response to the novel coronavirus pandemic, is facing growing threats to his personal safety, prompting the government to step up his security, according to people familiar with the matter. The concerns include threats as well as unwelcome communications from fervent admirers, according to people with knowledge of deliberations inside the Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Justice.Fauci, 79, is the most outspoken member of the administration in favor of sweeping public health guidelines and is among the few officials willing to correct President Donald Trump’s misstatements. Along with Deborah Birx, the coordinator for the White House’s task force, Fauci has encouraged the president to extend the timeline for social-distancing guidelines, presenting him with grim models about the possible toll of the pandemic.

Diarrhea first sign of coronavirus in some patients, study finds Some patients with COVID-19 experience gastrointestinal symptoms, particularly diarrhea, as the first sign of illness, according to a new study.Among this subset of patients – who have mild disease overall – respiratory symptoms show up only later in the illness, and some never develop respiratory symptoms at all, the authors said. The findings are important because those without classic symptoms of COVID-19 – such as cough, shortness of breath and fever – may go undiagnosed and could potentially spread the illness to others, the researchers said.Still, they note that digestive problems are common overall and don’t necessarily mean that a person has COVID-19. But doctors should recognize that sudden digestive symptoms in people with a possible COVID-19 contact “should at least prompt consideration of the illness,” the authors wrote in their paper, published ahead of print Monday (March 30) in The American Journal of Gastroenterology. “Failure to recognize these patients early and often may lead to unwitting spread of the disease.”

Small group of coronavirus patients exhibit neurological symptoms: report A small percentage of coronavirus patients suffer neurological problems like stroke and seizures, a report said.Common symptoms of COVID-19 include cough, shortness of breath and fever, but in rare cases, patients can exhibit an altered mental state, the New York Times reported.Late last month In Michigan, a woman with coronavirus told doctors her name, but there was little else she could provide. A brain scan showed swelling and inflammation. She was diagnosed with acute necrotizing encephalopathy, a rare complication from some viruses, including the flu, and remains in critical condition, according to the Times.“The pattern of involvement, and the way that it rapidly progressed over days, is consistent with viral inflammation of the brain,” Dr. Elissa Fory, a neurologist with Henry Ford Health System, told The Times. “This may indicate the virus can invade the brain directly in rare circumstances.”
