Thursday on The Robert Scott Bell Show:
Sacred Fire of Liberty!
It’s that time of the week where we get to explore the political healing that this country needs so desperately! Jonathan Emord is back to help us dissect the latest political news that’s fit to print:
Trump says Democrats’ impeachment arguments ‘loaded with lies’ at start of trial President Trump said Thursday that the opening arguments of the House Democratic impeachment managers in his impeachment trial were “loaded with lies and misrepresentations,” saying that former President Barack Obama withheld foreign aid without consequences. “The Democrats & Shifty Schiff, whose presentation to the Senate was loaded with lies and misrepresentations, are refusing to state that the Obama Administration withheld aid from many countries including Ukraine, Pakistan, Philippines, Egypt, Honduras, & Mexico. Witch Hunt!” Mr. Trump tweeted. The trial began in earnest in the Senate on Wednesday. Lead impeachment manager Rep. Adam B. Schiff described Mr. Trump as a serial election “cheat” who must be removed from office before the November contest.
Adam Schiff Refers to Russia Over 30 Times During Senate Impeachment Hearing House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff focused intently on Russia during his opening argument in the Senate Impeachment trial on Wednesday. Schiff repeated the word “Russia,” “Russian,” or “Russians” about 30 times during his over two-hour opening speech, according to a rough transcript of the hearing. Schiff repeated widely-debunked conspiracy theories that Trump intentionally colluded with Russia to influence the 2016 election against former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Schiff also repeatedly referred to the Kremlin and Russian President Vladimir Putin to accuse Trump of siding with them to pressure the Ukrainians. Much of Schiff’s opening remarks retreaded existing arguments from Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation that found no collusion with Russia and included repeated references to the Mueller report and his testimony to Congress.
Grappling with the Ethical Decisions of Vaccines Even a cursory look at the resume of Dr. Johan Bester, director of bioethics at the UNLV School of Medicine, helps you understand why the national media frequently calls on him to explain the reasons vaccine-preventable measles has come roaring back in the U.S. and around the world. The title of his doctoral thesis? “Ethical Concerns in the Debate about Pediatric Vaccinations, with Special Reference to MMR (Mumps, Measles and Rubella).” The increased public interest in pediatric vaccinations is certainly understandable, given that measles cases — thought eliminated in the U.S. almost two decades ago — are now surging. Last year, the U.S. recorded more than 1,200 cases of the disease. In 2018 measles outbreaks cropped up around the globe, killing 140,000 people, according to the World Health Organization. In the South Pacific nation of Samoa in 2019, 65 people, most of them babies or small children, died from the highly contagious disease.

Parents of children with chickenpox less likely to develop Adults exposed to a child with chickenpox in the home are less likely to develop shingles, but vaccination still offers the best protection even if it doesn’t provide the long-standing immunity previously thought, a new analysis has revealed. In an article published Wednesday in BMJ, researchers in England note that their findings support the theory that re-exposure to the herpes zoster virus as an adult, after having chickenpox as a child, boosts immunity to the disease but does not provide complete protection. Infection with varicella zoster virus causes chickenpox. After this initial infection, the virus remains dormant in the body, and reactivation, sometimes years later, causes shingles.
Professor Warns New Coronavirus Has Same Kill Rate as the Spanish Flu A professor has warned that the new deadly coronavirus which originated in China has the same kill rate as the Spanish flu, which claimed the lives of 20-50 million people in 1918. Fears of widespread contagion are growing after hundreds of cases were confirmed and 17 people died. The virus originated in an animal market in Wuhan, China and has now spread to numerous other countries, including the United States. The virus has a 2% death rate, compared to 0.1% for the regular flu. For every 50 people who are infected, one will statistically die. “This [2019-nCoV’s death rate] could be 2%, similar to Spanish flu,” said Professor Neil Ferguson from Imperial College London. “Novel viruses spread much faster because we have no immunity,” he added.
Chinese Coronavirus Outbreak Traced Back To Snakes, Study Finds The emergence of a new coronavirus strain in Wuhan, China last month has put the entire world on alert. Following the recent revelation that the virus can in fact be spread via human-to-human transmission, Chinese authorities have halted flights and trains departing the city and inhabitants have been advised not to travel. Meanwhile researchers have been working tirelessly to understand this new health risk, both its origins and nature, in order to formulate the best way to stop a full blown epidemic. Now, researchers appear to have zeroed in on how the virus, officially named 2019-nCoV by the World Health Organization, first spread to humans: exposure to snakes at a wholesale market.
Anti-5G group plans global protest A group of activists against the expansion of 5G wireless technology is planning a protest in New York City to warn people about its negative effects. The U.S. government and cell service providers — particularly the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and AT&T — have been making strides to catch up with China‘s ever-growing 5G technology, which is expected to be the new global wireless standard since it will deliver significantly faster and more precise internet connections to users than the 4G technology the U.S. uses today. But some activists are worried about the “biological and health effects of electromagnetic fields” related to wireless technology, saying it can lead to radiation that causes cancer, and a group called the NYC 5G Wake-Up Call is taking its concerns to the public on Jan. 25, the Global Day of Protest to Stop 5G on Earth and in Space.
