Friday on The Robert Scott Bell Show:
Frontline ER Doctor From Viral HCQ Video Fired From Job Gold had defended her views – which reflected her real-life experience as a board-certified doctor specializing in emergency medicine, not a journalist playing one on TV! – saying in a tweet that “there are always opposing views in medicine,” but that opposition should not be grounds for censorship.“Treatment options for COVID-19 should be debated, and spoken about among our colleagues in the medical field,” she wrote.“They should never, however, be censored and silenced.” But now, Dr. Gold has lost her job after her employer found out about the viral video where she dared to discuss hydroxychloroquine.Until what seems like 5 minutes ago I was considered a ‘hero’ [as a frontline emergency physician] with people clapping at what I was doing… but now i have been summarily fired for appearing in what was told to me was ‘an embarrassing video’.
Agree or Disagree with ‘America’s Frontline Doctors,’ But Big Tech Shouldn’t Be Deciding for You In a recent viral video, a group of health professionals calling themselves “America’s Frontline Doctors” advocated for the use of hydroxychloroquine as a treatment for COVID-19. Facebook and Twitter, the two most widely used social media platforms, have both been removing and censoring any mention of the video, flagging it as “false information.” In doing so, these tech giants are deciding which board-certified experts deserve public visibility and which experts don’t. Twitter and Facebook are fully willing to share the opinions of the World Health Organization and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention despite the fact that both public health organizations have been wildly inconsistent with their findings on the coronavirus. At one point, the CDC said that American’s don’t need masks, but now the organization has changed its mind. CDC Director Robert Redfield had even told a House committee in February that “There is no role for these masks in the community,” according to MarketWatch.
Mask Fatigue: Some North Texas Workers Claim Headaches, Shortness Of Breath And Anxiety The mask mandate to keep Texans from spreading COVID-19 is coming with some side effects. Some people who are forced to wear face masks all day in the workplace complain of headaches, shortness of breath and anxiety. Whether the elastic is too tight or the cloth is too thick, there are a lot of reasons for mask fatigue that people who wear them for long periods are starting to experience. Nearly three months of wearing a face mask everyday has taken a toll on the women who work at Southern Sisters Salon in McKinney. Like a lot of workplaces in North Texas, masks are mandatory, but for some of those forced to wear them, they are miserable. The salon employees say keeping candy and mints in their mouths helps and they take as many outdoor breaks as possible. The women who work there say they know masks are necessary for the business to stay open and for now are willing to put up with the discomfort. “When I have long days, if it’s a 12 hour day, I’m sick when I get home,” said Courtney Warnell. “Sick to my stomach. As soon as the I get in the car I’m pulling it off and I don’t want to do anything else. I just want to go home and be mask-free. People working not only in salons but also, retailers, restaurants, factories and offices are struggling with mask fatigue, but there’s no end in sight regarding the order to keep them on.
Couple Arrested For Violating Quarantine A Florida couple was arrested yesterday for defying quarantine orders issued after they each tested positive for COVID-19, police report. Cops last night busted Yohana Gonzalez, 26, and Jose Interian, 24, at their Key West apartment on a pair of misdemeanor charges. According to quarantine orders issued on July 21 by Florida’s Department of Health, Gonzalez and Interian were each informed on July 15 that they had tested positive for the coronavirus. Since the couple had roommates, they were instructed to wear face masks at home, self-isolate, and remain in their residence for a minimum of two weeks. The couple, however, ignored these directives, according to the state orders. They allegedly failed to wear face masks at home, and “exposed all members of your household to COVID-19.” Additionally, the defendants–still symptomatic with the virus–went grocery shopping on July 20. While the state orders were intended to secure compliance from Gonzalez and Interian, the couple continued to ignore safety guidelines, police allege. Neighbors who recorded them outside their home provided cops with the video evidence.
Vaccine distribution will be ‘joint venture’ between CDC and Pentagon Nationwide distribution of any coronavirus vaccine will be a “joint venture” between the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which typically oversees vaccine allocation, and the Department of Defense, a senior administration official said today. The Department of Defense “is handling all the logistics of getting the vaccines to the right place, at the right time, in the right condition,” the official said in a call with reporters, adding that CDC will remain in charge of tracking any side effects that emerge post-vaccination and “some of the communications through the state relationships [and] the state public health organizations.”The plan breaks with the longstanding precedent that CDC distributes vaccines during major outbreaks — such as bad flu seasons — through a centralized ordering system for state and local health officials. “We believe we’ve actually combined the best of both,” the official said. A second senior administration official stressed the agencies would be working as “one team” to distribute hundreds of millions of doses if any of the vaccines in development are approved in the coming months. Private companies are also likely to join the effort. The first official said the government is bringing in people to integrate CDC IT capabilities with “some new applications that we’re going to need that the CDC never had.”
FDA Chief: We’ll Consider Emergency Use Authorization For Covid-19 Vaccines The head of the U.S Food and Drug Administration Thursday said the agency would consider an “emergency use authorization” to expedite getting a vaccine against the Coronavirus strain Covid-19 to millions of Americans. FDA Commissioner Dr. Stephen Hahn said the agency would “consider an emergency use authorization if we felt that the risks associated with the vaccine were much lower than the risks of not having a vaccine and the potential benefit of having a vaccine.” An emergency use authorization from the FDA allows unapproved medical products to be used in an emergency to diagnose, treat or prevent life-threatening disease or conditions. The FDA has used several emergency use authorizations in the pandemic as a way to get many diagnostic tests for Covid-19 more quickly to the market than the agency’s typical approval process. Hahn made his comments in a live interview with Dr. Howard Bauchner, editor of JAMA just days after the most advanced experimental Covid-19 vaccines thhis week entered the critical final stage “phase 3” studies in tens of thousands of patients who are receiving doses of vaccines developed by Moderna and Pfizer. There’s been speculation and “cautious optimism” from some health experts including Dr. Anthony Fauci of the National Institutes of Health that a vaccine’s safety and effectiveness could be known by U.S. regulators by early this winter, clearing the way for public use.
FDA Warns of Silver, Other Bogus COVID-19 Cures FDA has issued more than 90 warning letters about fraudulent products claiming to prevent or cure the disease. While the bulk of those letters are to companies, a handful are directed at health care professionals. The FDA and FTC are not the only ones fighting bogus product claims about COVID-19. The FBI began investigating Jennings Ryan Staley, MD, a San Diego doctor who operated the Skinny Beach Med Spa. In mid-April, he was charged with mail fraud in connection with the sale of a COVID-19 treatment pack he said would make users immune to the virus for at least 6 weeks. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of California, Staley also offered Xanax (alprazolam) as part of the package without providing a required medical exam. The anti-anxiety drug is a Schedule IV controlled substance. In an interview with the FBI, Staley denied saying the treatments are a 100% effective cure for COVID-19, according to the news release issued by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Fetal regulation of iron transport during pregnancy During pregnancy, iron is transported from mother to fetus across the placenta. Iron is essential for many biological processes, including the transfer of oxygen in blood, but it can also be toxic. Elaborate and elegant mechanisms have evolved to make sure that the potential for oxidative damage is minimized. In this article, we examine how iron is transferred from the maternal liver to the placenta, taken up, and transferred to the fetal liver. We consider the molecular mechanisms and how they are regulated. In addition, we use data from previously published articles to examine how the processes are regulated and what adaptations can occur to ameliorate the consequences of iron deficiency–an all too common problem in pregnancy, even in the developed world. Finally, we examine some of the many questions that remain about the transfer process and consider how nutrients interact and what the consequences of these interactions may be for the mother and her developing infant.
The placenta: the forgotten essential organ of iron transport Optimal iron nutrition in utero is essential for development of the fetus and helpsestablish birth iron stores adequate to sustain growth in early infancy. In specieswith hemochorial placentas, such as humans and rodents, iron in the maternalcirculation is transferred to the fetus by directly contacting placental syncytiotro-phoblasts. Early kinetic studies provided valuable data on the initial uptake ofmaternal transferrin, an iron-binding protein, by the placenta. However, the re-maining steps of iron trafficking across syncytiotrophoblasts and through the fetalendothelium into the fetal blood remain poorly characterized. Over the last20 years, identification of transmembrane iron transporters and the iron regula-tory hormone hepcidin has greatly expanded the knowledge of cellular iron trans-port and its regulation by systemic iron status. In addition, emerging human andanimal data demonstrating comprised fetal iron stores in severe maternal iron de-ficiency challenge the classic dogma of exclusive fetal control over the transferprocess and indicate that maternal and local signals may play a role in regulatingthis process. This review compiles current data on the kinetic, molecular, andregulatory aspects of placental iron transport and considers new questions andknowledge gaps raised by these advances.
The selfishly selfless placenta Although iron deficiency continues to pose a problem for pregnant women and fetal development, an incomplete understanding of placental adaptation to limited ironavailability has hindered efforts to identify optimal supplementation strategies. In this issueof the JCI, Sangkhae et al. used mouse models and human placentas to explore maternal, placental, and fetal responses to alterations in iron status during pregnancy. The authorsidentified molecular mechanisms that limit placental ability to upregulate iron transport in thesetting of severe iron deficiency and explored a potential marker of placental maladaptation.
Comment of The Day!
RSB, Well it was bound to happen today (7-30-20) I walked into the Eye Clinic , name with held to protect the guilty and was asked to leave for not wearing a mask , not by 1 zombie but I was actually surrounded by 6 all female zombies urgently asking me to exit the office , there was 1 Alpha Female with a more masculine look and attitude and she was by far the most insistent that I was to leave ASAP ! When I asked why I must wear a mask , she could respond to the fact that wearing a mask is fruitless and actually dangerous to your Health C02 , so she feel back on Big Brother and said that the Texas State Medical Board had mandated that all individuals in a Medical Bldg. must comply to wear a mask while inside said Bldg. ! I explained to them that they where harming their own personal Health and they could not care less or understand the statement ( zombified brains ) ! Thanks , for your efforts at speaking the truth as long as that last ! James
