Remind Me Again Why We Have An Opioid Epidemic? Oh…RIGHT
Opana ER: Endo set to profit from an opioid it said was unsafe It’s not uncommon for drug companies to try to keep generic versions of their best-selling drugs off the market. But this is a story about a drug company that went to extraordinary lengths to do so, calling into question the safety of a drug it had sold for years. When its plan didn’t work, the company made an unusual decision. Endo still has the patent on the original version of the drug, the one it fought to keep off the market. The FDA’s action this summer didn’t impact the crushable version Endo stopped selling in 2012. So on August 8, Endo cut a deal with Impax Laboratories to split the profits of a generic version of its original drug. Endo is now poised to make money from a drug that it said shouldn’t be on the market.
Kids Need More Water!
Dehydrated children: Kids are drinking about one quarter of the water they should be, according to new study Children are drinking less water than what is recommended, with some even going through an entire school day with just one glass of water consumed, a new study reveals. Guidelines suggest that four- to eight-year-olds should have five glasses (one liter) of water a day; seven to eight glasses (1.5 liters) for nine- to 13-year-old children; and eight to 11 glasses for 14 to 18 years – but the average child is said to be drinking less than two glasses a day. A further 32 percent go through the entire school day having just one glass of water.

Michigan Bills Would Make It More Difficult To Enact Mandatory Vaccinations Two Michigan House bills would add impediments making it more difficult for state-level officials to enact coercive vaccination mandates, and would set the stage to nullifying in practice federal programs designed to facilitate vaccinations. House Bill 5162 (HB5162) was introduced by Rep. Steven Johnson (R-Wayland) and House Bill 5163 (HB5163) was introduced by Rep. John Reilly (R-Oakland). The legislation would remove power from unelected bureaucrats to impose more stringent rules regarding vaccinations. Under these bills, the state legislature would have sole discretion to setting these rules.
Ok…I Guess Homer Has An Excuse…
In fact, the study researchers — from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD — found that food in general has the ability to divert our attention, but when it comes to candy vs. kale, the former always wins.
Hour 2 – Advanced Medicine with Dr. Rashid Buttar!
Dr. Buttar is back to talk about what’s happening in the world of health news. Here’s what we have in store for you today:
The Global Epidemic of Mercury Toxicity and Autism In nature, toxic metals generally are bound with other elements rather than being present in their pure form. However, with the advent of large-scale industrial processes to extract metals from naturally occurring compounds, humans let the genie out of the bottle, contributing significantly to the distribution of mercury, aluminum and other heavy metals in the environment. When released from nature’s semi-protective hold, these “invariably toxic” metals wreak havoc on living systems, including humans, animals and plants alike.
Pessimism: Can it be beneficial? Our culture is saturated with upbeat messages, encouraging us to
think positively. All the while, pessimism is typically regarded as a flaw or a hindrance — but could it actually bring its own benefits? Pessimism is often defined as the expectation of negative outcomes, especially in the collective consciousness. People who tend to see the glass as half empty rather than half full are therefore perceived as messengers of doom and gloom.
Pesticides in food tied to reduced fertility in new study Fruits and vegetables are an essential part of a healthy pregnancy diet, providing vitamins and fiber. Yet some might also come with pesticide residues. Among women undergoing infertility treatment in the United States, consuming more fruits and vegetables with high amounts of pesticide residue was associated with a lower chance of pregnancy and a higher risk of pregnancy loss, according to a study published in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine on Monday.
Is there a conflict of interest behind your cancer diagnosis? Today, pathologists don’t restrict themselves to just diagnosing disease. Through the use of tests called “companion diagnostics,” pathologists also help determine whether a patient may be eligible for specific targeted treatments, such asHerceptin for breast cancer or Keytruda for a variety of cancers. These powerful drugs come with hefty price tags. Modern cancer treatments routinely cost more than $100,000 per year. The manufacturers of these drugs and their companion diagnostic testing know that pathologists play an essential role in determining who gets these costly drugs.
Treating Autism With Cannabis Now Has Scientific Support New research suggests that the
cannabis-extract cannabidiol could help treat autism. Autism is challenging to treat pharmacologically because there’s no single cause. Autism can be caused by genetic factors, environmental factors (e.g., pesticide exposure) or a combination of both. Depending on the underlying cause, the severity of symptoms ranges across a spectrum, thus leading to the classification of autism as a spectrum disorder. But a recent study suggests that cannabidiol (CBD) could offer relief for people on the spectrum.
