Childhood Antibiotics Could Raise Risk of Mental Illness, Study Finds For all the good that antibiotics do, relying on them too much can have pretty drastic drawbacks. In particular, their overuse can help create bacterial superbugs resistant to future antibiotics. But a new study published this week in JAMA Psychiatry suggests there’s another, more subtle consequence of antibiotic use, at least in young people: a higher risk of developing serious mental illnesses like obsessive-compulsive disorder and schizophrenia. In recent years, there’s been renewed scientific interest in the idea that common infections could increase the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease in our older years. But researchers have also found evidence that childhood infections can raise the risk of mental illness even earlier in life. A common hypothesis underlying both theories is that these infections may cause chronic inflammation or other bodily side-effects that directly damage the brain. But study author Robert Yolken, a neurovirologist at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and his team decided to explore a different possible explanation for why infections are linked to mental illness.
Whole Foods Ranked Worst on Cancer-Linked Package Chemicals Whole Foods Market, hailed for its high standards for healthy food, ranked worst in a study of five major U.S. grocery chains for chemicals it uses in packaging at its popular hot-food bar. In response, the company said it has removed all the coated paper products in question and has started a search for new biodegradable packaging. The study — released by watchdog groups Safer Chemicals, Healthy Families and Toxic-Free Future — found that Amazon.com Inc.’s grocer was the biggest offender when it came to food contact papers that appear to have been treated with a class of chemicals, some of which have been linked to cancer. They found high levels of fluorine in five of the 17 items tested at Whole Foods — four of which were containers for its salad and hot-food bar. “Whole Foods Market introduced compostable containers to reduce our environmental footprint, but given new concerns about the possible presence of PFAS, we have removed all prepared foods and bakery packaging highlighted in the report,” the company said in an emailed statement. “We’re actively working with our suppliers to find and scale new compostable packaging options.”
The Little-Known Way Pharma Companies Hook People On Their Costly Drugs Kip Burgess was relieved last year when pharmaceutical giant Amgen overnighted him a $2,976 check to help pay for his go-to arthritis drug, Enbrel. The 36-year-old psychologist had run into an increasingly common problem: The copay coupon sent by Amgen couldn’t cover the drug’s more than $4,000 monthly price. “Nothing in the world gives me more anxiety than just getting my medication,” Burgess said. “There’s nothing you can do but beg.” Panicked, Burgess had called Amgen and pleaded for help. The drugmaker sent him the check after he provided a credit card statement and an explanation of benefits to prove he bought its drug. It’s one of the little-known secrets in health care: When financial incentives like copay coupons and debit cards won’t work, pharmaceutical companies sometimes will write a check — what they call direct reimbursement — to make sure a loyal patient will stay on a high-cost, brand-name drug.
Can CBD oil relieve arthritis pain? Recent studies suggest that cannabidiol oil could play a role in the treatment of arthritis. What are the benefits of cannabidiol oil and are there any side effects people should be aware of before using it? Cannabidiol (CBD) oil, also called hemp oil, contains CBD extracts from cannabis plants. Some people use CBD oil to relieve pain associated with chronic conditions, such as arthritis. This article looks at the scientific evidence behind the benefits, uses, and side effects of CBD oil. In this article, we examine whether CBD oil may be an effective treatment for arthritis and chronic pain. Cannabinoids, such as CBD, attach themselves to specialized receptors in a person’s brain and immune system. One of these receptors, called a CB2 receptor, plays a role in the immune system by managing pain and inflammation. Researchers believe that when CBD enters a person’s body, it may attach to CB2 receptors. Alternatively, it may cause the body to produce natural cannabinoids that attach to the CB2 receptors.
Woman Nearly Dies And Sustains Extensive Brain Damage After Attempting A Soy Sauce “Cleanse” In case you needed another reason to be skeptical of trendy diets and cleanses, YouTube medical channel Chubbyemu has shared a post describing the case of a 39-year-old American woman who ended up with permanent brain damage after attempting a soy sauce “colon cleanse” following an extreme crash diet. Unfortunately, details of the case are impossible to confirm, but if true, they serve as a sobering cautionary tale. According to the vlogger, who identifies as a licensed medical provider named Bernard, the woman presented to an emergency room in the Illinois Medical District in 2012 with symptoms indicative of rapidly deteriorating cognitive function. After taking a history, by speaking with the patient’s husband, the attending physicians learned that the woman had consumed a liter of soy sauce earlier that day. Soy sauce contains 5,493 mg of sodium per 100 grams, and a one-liter bottle contains fluid weighing more than 1,200 grams – meaning that the patient had consumed approximately 66 grams of sodium.
Hour 2 – Outside The Box With Ty Bollinger!
It’s time to go Outside The Box again with Ty Bollinger! What will we be talking about today?
US Children Spend 9 Hours a Day on Computers and Cell Phones that Are Harming Their Brains New scientific evidence shows that Big Tech is harming children who use screens on tablets, cell phones or computers for more than seven hours per day are developing different brain structures. The cortex of the brain, the outer layer that is used for organizing and planning, develops a premature thinning from prolonged exposure to screens. Neuroplasticity allows molding and shaping of the brain when exposed to certain environments for more than three hours a day, and the average American child spends nine hours a day interacting with screens. The brain grows new neural pathways and circuitry to adapt to the cyber world. The result is an increase in anxiety and depression and children as young as two years old are developing depression.
Sweden: Father arrested for beating burglar, who took his 7-year-old son hostage with a gun A father of a 7-year-old boy in Malmö has been arrested for beating up a burglar who put a gun in the boy’s mouth. The 45-year-old burglar broke into a flat in Malmö. He was confronted by the family who lives there, whereupon he grabbed one of the children, a 7-year-old. He then allegedly put his gun in the boy’s mouth. When the child’s grandmother saw this, she screamed and managed to snatch the child. Then the boy’s father came into the room and the two men started fighting. The father “flipped out” and hit the gunman so hard that he lost consciousness and suffered severe head injury, a source tells Aftonbladet. The police then came to the site and seized the burglar – and also the father. Since then, he has been locked up and detained, suspected of aggravated assault. The intruder was arrested suspected of aggravated unlawful threats, assault in two cases and drug offence. He was also accused of weapons offence, but the investigation was closed after the gun was confirmed as a CO2 gun.
Virginia high school teacher fired for refusing to use transgender student’s new pronouns A Virginia high school teacher was fired Thursday for refusing to use a transgender student’s new pronouns, a case believed to be the first of its kind in the state. After a four-hour hearing, the West Point School Board voted 5-0 to terminate Peter Vlaming, a French teacher at West Point High School who resisted administrators’ orders to use male pronouns to refer to a ninth-grade student who had undergone a gender transition. The board met in closed session for nearly an hour before the vote. Like a similar transgender rights case in nearby Gloucester County that eventually reached the U.S. Supreme Court, Vlaming’s situation could present a novel legal case as public bodies continue to grapple with how to reconcile anti-discrimination policies with the rights of religious employees. The high school in West Point, a town in King William County about an hour east of Richmond, has about 265 students.
Canada Urges World “Have Fewer Children” To Fight Climate Change understand some people just don’t want to believe that all this Global Warming is a ploy because they know the bulk of society is just too stupid or naive to understand they are being manipulated. A number of people do not want to believe the secret agenda is to reduce population growth. Here it is in black and white published in Canada. They argue that the #1 way to prevent climate change is to STOP having children! This kind of attitude makes me feel I should be doing my part and have more children again. There is something seriously wrong with these people. They claim that not even having a car contributes to only 2.4% reduction in CO2. The biggest decrease in CO2 is to stop having children which would reduce it by 58.6%.
The CDC Claims the Flu Shot Reduces Mortality in the Elderly – But Where’s the Evidence? The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that everyone aged six months and up, including pregnant women, get an annual influenza vaccine. The two fundamental assumptions underlying the CDC’s policy are that vaccination reduces transmission of the virus and reduces the risk of potentially deadly complications. Yet multiple reviews of the scientific literature have concluded that there is no good scientific evidence to support the CDC’s claims. Notwithstanding the science, to increase demand for the pharmaceutical companies’ influenza vaccine products, the CDC makes use of fear marketing, asserting as fact that tens of thousands of people die each year from the flu, even though the CDC’s numbers are actually estimates that are controversial because they are based on dubious assumptions that appear to result in a great overestimation of the negative impact of influenza on societal health. The primary justification for the CDC’s flu vaccine policy is the assumption that it significantly reduces the mortality rate among people aged 65 and older, the group at highest risk of potentially deadly complications from the flu. The CDC declares to the public that the vaccine does so as though this was a scientifically proven fact. Yet, the reality is that the CDC’s bold claim that the vaccine greatly reduces the risk of death among the elderly has been thoroughly discredited by the scientific community.
NJ State Police to launch Nazi-style door-to-door gun magazine confiscation campaign… at gunpoint, ofcourse… NJ declares WAR on its own residents A New Jersey law that makes it a felony to possess a gun magazine capable of holding over 10 rounds of ammunition is now active. This wildly unconstitutional law instantly criminalizes hundreds of thousands of New Jersey citizens who legally acquired normal capacity firearms magazines — which include 17-round pistol magazines and 30-round rifle magazines — as tools of self-defense against the very same violent criminals that are protected by the Democrats who passed the gun magazine ban. Now, the New Jersey State Police have told Breitbart News they won’t rule out “house-to-house enforcement” of the new magazine ban, meaning they plan to conduct house-to-house arrests and gun magazine confiscations. These Nazi-style anti-gun operations will, of course, be carried out at gunpoint, further underscoring the entire purpose of the Second Amendment and the need for citizens to arm themselves with 30-round magazines to defend against government tyranny.
