Measles outbreak may spread to California, doctors are warned – with risk of deafness, autism California’s public health officials are alerting doctors and other medical providers to be on the lookout for measles after first New York state and now nearby Washington state wrestle with a wily virus that health experts say can cause deafness and autism in its survivors. “Most bacteria and viruses, you … have to breathe in a lot of those viruses to get sick, but with measles, it takes very few,” said Dr. Karen Smith, director of the California Department of Public Health. “That means almost everybody who gets exposed is likely to get sick. It also has a very high … attack rate, so when you are infected, you get sick.” At least 43 people have caught the disease in Washington state and one more in neighboring Multnomah County, Ore. In New York, almost 210 people have had the illness since October.
Health officials warn NH is in early stages of hepatitis A outbreak There has been a sharp increase in the number of hepatitis A cases in New Hampshire, leading health officials to warn on Tuesday that the state is in the early stages of an outbreak. In the past three months, 13 people have been diagnosed with hepatitis A infections, including seven in January alone. Officials said there are typically six to seven people diagnosed each year in the state. The diagnoses came in southern New Hampshire, including five in Hillsborough County, three each in Rockingham and Strafford counties and one each in Cheshire and Merrimack counties. Health officials said people at a higher risk of contracting hepatitis A and anyone looking to protect themselves from infection are recommended to seek out the vaccine, which is safe and effective.
Measles rarely kills in the US — but when it does, here’s how At least 10 US states have reported cases of measles so far in 2019, including Washington, where an outbreak is to blame for 50 cases. Measles is a highly contagious disease caused by a virus that can spread through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes, or if a person comes into direct contact or shares germs by touching the same objects or surfaces. High fever, rash all over the body, stuffy nose and reddened eyes are typical measles symptoms, though these usually disappear without treatment within two or three weeks. But along with causing those symptoms, measles can also lead to death, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. So how do people die of the measles? They succumb when complications become too severe. About 1 child out of every 1,000 who get measles will develop encephalitis — swelling of the brain — that can lead to convulsions, deafness or intellectual disability. As many as 1 out of every 20 children with measles will get pneumonia, which can also be deadly, the agency reports.
Hawaii may increase legal smoking age to 100 Hawaii could raise the legal smoking age to 100, effectively banning cigarettes for the vast majority of people in the state. In a new bill, proposed by Democrat Richard Creagan, the smoking age would increase rapidly between 2020 and 2024. It will need to pass through the state legislature and weather a potentially strong backlash from tobacco companies in order to become state law. E-cigarettes, chewing tobacco and cigars are not included in the bill. Dr Creagan, who was an emergency room physician before he was elected as state representative in 2014, calls the cigarette “the deadliest artefact in human history” in the bill. In January 2017, Hawaii became the first US state to raise its smoking age to 21. In other US states the legal age is usually 18 or 19.
Those who practice natural medicine and the healing arts must denounce the pro-infanticide Democratparty… no longer compatible with healing or compassion People who practice natural medicine and the healing arts must denounce the Democrat party, which has now become the party of infanticide. The post-birth murder of living human babies is now applauded by Democrats, who claim that murdering a human child is “a woman’s choice.” Instead of calling it murder, of course, they deceptively label it, “women’s reproductive health,” twisting the murder of children into an innocent sounding health issue. Just recently, New York Democrats voted and signed into law a shockingly violent abortion law that quite literally legalizes the killing of babies who survive abortion attempts and are born alive. That same law also legalizes abortion right up to the due date, openly allowing the murder of babies as they are being born (partial-birth abortion).
Question of The Day!
I have been supplementing with selenium for a long time. Generally 200-400 mcg daily but more if I am not feeling well. I have used several brands and they all use selenium derived from mustard seed in 200 mcg capsules. I know that you only recommend whole food derived minerals. I’m assuming mustard seed counts. The brands I have heard you recommend are much more expensive and only come in 50 mcg capsules. I don’t mind spending money to maintain my health, but if I can get the same benefits from a cheaper product I will take that route. Is the form I am using and recommending to others effective?
World Health Organization Calls for Rescheduling Cannabis Over the past year, cannabis advocates around the world have been waiting for the UN World Health Organization to issue its finding on whether the status of cannabis and cannabinoids under the relevant international treaties should be changed. The “critical review” from the WHO’s Expert Committee on Drug Dependence, promised last year, is now in. Although the full report has not yet been formally published, an “extract” of the section concerning cannabis has been released. While it is hardly the coup advocates had been hoping for, it still represents some progress — especially where CBD is concerned. The extract of the report begins with the recommendation that cannabis and cannabis extracts “be deleted from Schedule IV of the 1961 Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs.”
Test Shows Massive ‘Marijuana’ Bust is Hemp In mid-January, law enforcement authorities in Osage County, Oklahoma, believed they had on their hands the bust of a lifetime: 18,000 pounds of marijuana in a tractor-trailer, on its way from Kentucky to a buyer in Colorado, seized after a driver was foolish enough to run a red light. Nobody in those parts had ever seen anything like it before. It was not the biggest marijuana bust ever in history, but the biggest in local memory. For the cops involved and for Mike Fisher, Osage County’s new district attorney — who had been on the job for five days when this case appeared — it would be the seizure of a lifetime, a boast good for the rest of their careers. All that was needed was proof that the 18,000 pounds of “plant material” was, in fact, marijuana and not non-psychoactive, legal-to-ship-across-state-lines hemp, as the truck’s shipping manifest claims, as defense attorneys for the four men arrested and charged with drug trafficking insist, and as preliminary testing conducted by authorities indicates.
The Rise Of Wind Chill Temperature Denial Last week, bitterly cold air associated with a Polar Vortex intrusion dominated headlines and social media. Everyone was talking about it and rightfully so given the dangerously wind chill temperatures. Interestingly, I noticed “an anti-wind chill factor” narrative emerging. I thought it was just me until I saw a tweet this week by Ginger Zee. Zee, an outstanding meteorologist and communicator for ABC News, responded to a rather typical mean-spirited and ignorant Tweet suggesting that any meteorologist that posted wind chill temperatures instead of actual temperatures should be fired and have their degrees revoked. Dude, chill (pun intended). Zee told me that she was hearing this so often that she was compelled to respond. Why is there a surge in wind chill temperature denial?
