Biden Makes Cannon Fodder of History Joe Biden tells whoppers with such frequency, it is difficult to know when he is telling the truth.  Remarkably, even when his falsehoods are publicly condemned, he unabashedly repeats them, apparently on the premise that if a falsehood is repeatedenough, the American people will believe it.  Biden thus tries to dupe the American people into believing a distorted view of history and law in aid of his far-left political agenda.  Of course, the currency of the far left has long been to revise history and law in ways that cast aspersion on the champions and cause of liberty in order to bring about “transformational change,” i.e., the replacement of our limited federal republic with a socialist state.  Biden is, thus, traversing a well-worn leftist path. Memorial Day afforded Biden an opportunity to reflect upon the past and revise history yet again in support of his leftist agenda.  But what tumbled out of Biden’s mouth that day was, as is so often the case, simply blunt falsehood, lacking persuasive power.  In his ordinarily inarticulate way, Biden in a few words “recalled” false facts from history.

A Supreme Court justice’s solution to gun violence: Repeal Second Amendment Four years ago, when — as now — the nation was reeling from the horror of a mass school shooting, a retired Supreme Court justice suggested a radical solution: getting rid of the Second Amendment. John Paul Stevens issued the call after 17 people were killed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., in February 2018. The attack prompted hundreds of thousands to demand action the next month to end gun violence at the March for Our Lives. In a March 27, 2018, New York Times op-ed, Stevens praised the protesters and their call for stricter gun control laws. “But the demonstrators should seek more effective and more lasting reform,” he wrote, about a year before his death at 99. “They should demand a repeal of the Second Amendment.” Stevens said the amendment was adopted out of concern that a national standing army might pose a threat to the security of the states. “Today that concern is a relic of the 18th century,” he wrote. An elementary school massacre spurred tighter gun control in the U.K. He called repeal a “simple but dramatic action [that] would move Saturday’s marchers closer to their objective than any other possible reform” and would make schoolchildren safer. But Stevens didn’t acknowledge the herculean challenge that his proposal entailed, as there was (and remains) zero chance that gun control advocates would get anywhere close to the two-thirds majority in both houses of Congress and ratification by three-fourths of the states needed for repeal.

Beyond ‘Assault Weapons’: Kathy Hochul Targets ‘Semiautomatic Rifles’ New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) joined with state assembly leaders to announce ten new gun control bills, including a new minimum age and licensing requirement for the purchase of a “semiautomatic rifle.” On May 31, 2022, Hochul tweeted, “New York already has some of the toughest gun laws in the country — but there’s more work to do to keep New Yorkers safe. We are going to strengthen gun laws, give law enforcement tools to prevent crime, & stop the spread of dangerous weapons.” She posted a summary of the new gun control bills to her website: The bills would: require information sharing between state, local and federal agencies when guns are used in crimes; make threatening mass harm a crime; require microstamping for new guns; increase accountability for social media platforms; eliminate grandfathering of large capacity ammunition feeding devices; prohibit the purchase of body armor for anyone who is not engaged in an eligible profession; strengthen the Red Flag law by expanding the list of people who can file for Extreme Risk Protection Orders, and other measures; require that an individual obtain a license, with a minimum age of 21, to purchase a semiautomatic rifle; and close the “any other weapon” loophole. Hochul used a tweet to specifically address the push to raise the age and require a license for a semiautomatic rifle purchase. The governor said, “The gunmen in Buffalo and Uvalde both legally purchased the rifles they used to commit mass murders at the age of 18. So we’re raising the age requirement to 21 to obtain a license to purchase a semiautomatic rifle.”

Justice Department Appeals to Get Masks Back on Airlines, Buses, and Trains I am not a gambling man. As an investor, financial data analyst, and rock climber, I may appear on the surface to be a massive risk-taker, but in fact I see myself as a proactive risk-manager. It’s critical to know the stakes of the game, and to manage all the risks we can. Sometimes, that means keeping money in bonds or REITs, taking my rock-climbing gear for a hike to the cliff and back without ever climbing rocks, and choosing to stay inside instead of skiing on unstable snowpack. Meanwhile, the CDC, goaded by a community of epidemiologists firing tweets from their armchairs, is proving to be quite the gambler, going so far as to take a loan on our administrative state in its latest game of public health policy roulette. The world’s epidemiologists first displayed an uncanny appetite for gambling when they manufactured consent for the containment of COVID in 2020. At the time, we had vaccines in development that were positioned to undergo phase 3 trials, but we had no proof that these vaccines would work. The prior history of vaccines for coronaviruses was not promising. Despite decades of monitoring strain evolution and developing real-world vaccines, our influenza vaccines averaged ~30% effectiveness at reducing infections, and we had never before seen a coronavirus vaccine make it through phase 3 trials.

California Releases 500-page Interim Report Backing Reparations, Separate Black Schools The State of California, which entered the Union in 1850 as a free state, has issued a 492-page interim report recommending the state pay reparations for slavery and for other acts of racial injustice, nationally and locally, over the last two centuries. The report, issued by the California’s Task Force to Study and Develop Reparation Proposals for African Americans, is the outcome of deliberations that were launched last June when Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) signed AB 3121 into law. The nine-member panel, which is predominantly black, deadlocked for months over the question of who should benefit from proposed reparations — whether all people of color, or only those who could prove that they were directly descended from slaves. Ultimately, the panel decided to focus more narrowly, but the legislative recommendations of the interim report include broad measures that would apply to all “Black Californians,” such as a proposal to “[e]stimate the value of Black-owned businesses and property in California stolen or destroyed through acts of racial terror, distribute this amount back to Black Californians, and make housing grants, zero-interest business and housing loans and grants available to Black Californians.”

Farm Inflation: Prices Surge for Chickens, Eggs, Wheat, Corn, and Milk Prices paid to American farmers for crops and livestock continued to soar in April, data released by the Department of Agriculture on Tuesday showed. The index of prices received for agricultural production was up 5.1 percent compared with a month earlier. Compared with a year ago, prices of U.S. agricultural products are up 28 percent. The index for crops rose 1.7 in April and is up 17 percent compared with April of 2021. The livestock index jumped eight percent from March and is up 40 percent compared with a year ago. Food grains—including corn and wheat—were up 2.8 percent for the month and 45 percent compared with a year ago. Feed grain prices increased 7.8 percent from the prior month and 33 percent from a year ago. The poultry and egg index jumped 22 percent from March and 94 percent from a year earlier. The April market egg price, at $2.21 per dozen, is 81.0 cents higher than March and $1.64 higher than April 2021. The price of chickens raised for meat, at $1.05 per pound, is 15.3 cents higher than March and 49.7 cents higher than a year ago. At 95.3 cents per pound, the April turkey price is 2.5 cents higher than the previous month and 18.5 cents higher than April 2021. Milk prices climbed 4.12 percent in April and are up 47 percent compared with a year earlier.

U.S. Marine Corps Goes Woke, Celebrates ‘Pride Month’ with Rainbow Bullets The U.S. Marine Corps went full woke on Wednesday, marking the first day of “Pride Month” with a celebratory image featuring rainbow bullets. “Throughout June, the USMC [U.S. Marine Corps] takes #Pride in recognizing and honoring the contributions of our LGBTQ service members,” the U.S. Marine Corps said in a statement posted to social media. “We remain committed to fostering an environment free from discrimination, and defend the values of treating all equally, with dignity and respect,” it added, using the hashtags #PrideMonth and #USMC. The statement is accompanied by an image of a Marine helmet adorned with six bullets, each a different color, comprising a rainbow: Commenters were woefully unamused by the pandering attempt. “Maybe focus on what’s actually important to the nation’s defense. China and Russia are bolstering up their ranks with masculinity understanding it’s necessity, while we seem to be celebrating sexual choices and gender changes in our military,” one user remarked as another said, “This makes me sad.” “Is this satire?” another asked. “I’ve seen it all now,” another exclaimed as one added, “Focus on building warriors and less about social bullshit.” The tweet came on the first day of “Pride Month,” which spurred mass pandering from the Biden administration, corporate media, and various organizations.

Would You Pay With Your Face for ‘Convenience?’ “What is important to you? What world do you want to live in? How do you want to exist? Is convenience what you prioritize above all else?” Russell Brand suggested we should be asking ourselves these questions as corporations roll out biometric payment systems “for our convenience.” In a recent video segment, “Oh No. You Were Right,” Brand looked at reports that Mastercard is implementing “smile-to-pay” technology that allows customers to pay with their faces using biometric data. Mastercard announced in mid-May a pilot of the program in Brazil, saying in a statement that it would be introduced next in the Middle East and Asia. With the technology — which interfaces with an app called Payface — “consumers can simply check the bill and smile into a camera or wave their hand over a reader to pay,” said the announcement. “For merchants, the benefits are also considerable, from faster transaction times and shorter lines to greater hygiene and heightened security,” according to Mastercard. Brand questioned the motives behind the innovation.
