Thursday on The Robert Scott Bell Show:
Sacred Fire of Liberty!
It’s that time of the week where we get to explore the political healing that this country needs so desperately! Jonathan Emord is back to help us dissect the latest political news that’s fit to print:
Joe Biden Says The Government Needs Money Because ‘There’s Going To Be Another Pandemic’ President Joe Biden said Tuesday that the government needed more money to prepare for “the second pandemic,” which he assured reporters would come. Biden, responding to a question about making vaccines available to young children in the wake of the most recent Emergency Use Authorizations (EUAs), said that his administration was working to make sure that there were enough vaccines — but that his administration was also investing money into preparing for the next pandemic. The reporter asked about the number of doses of the COVID vaccines were available for school-aged children — and how many the government was prepared to provide before the administration asked for more money to manage the costs. “We’ll get through at least this year,” Biden began, adding, “We do need more money. But we don’t just need more money for vaccines for children, eventually. We need more money to plan for the second pandemic. There’s going to be another pandemic.”
Biden’s Ticking Legacy Time Bomb Biden’s refusal to protect the Southern border has resulted in deaths, injuries, property loses, and theft—and that tragedy will define him for all time to come. Biden’s shameful abdication of his most fundamental duty as Commander-in-Chief (to protect the security of the United States) will be his most memorable, lasting and reprehensible legacy. His unwavering refusal to protect the Southern Border in the face of myriad lethal threats makes it unmistakable that his true agenda is one of nihilism. He is presiding over the destruction of innocent American lives and private property. Biden’s dereliction at the border daily creates ticking time bombs across the United States, facilitated by his taxpayer funded flights of illegals to cities and suburbs nationwide. The influx of terrorists, violent gang members, petty criminals, and fentanyl and other illicit drugs from his refusal to protect the Southern border is so devastating that it of necessity defines him even now in the minds of most Americans. He will long be remembered by those who have suffered profound loss due to illegal border entry as that President who neutered CBP and facilitated the largest entry of illegals and illegal drugs into the United States. His support for illegal entry surpasses in spades his sympathy for the victims of that entry, which appears non-existent. He does not even recognize, let alone assist, those victimized by crime associated with illegal entry.
Revenge of the Locked-Down Voters You might have noticed a certain political instability in the air, not just in the US but all over the world. In a world in which people generally care about rights and freedoms, surely this was inevitable, however much the expert managerial class failed to anticipate it. Beginning in March 2020, much of the world embarked on a wild experiment to treat peoples of the world as lab rats in an experiment in virus control. The experiment failed and has left chaos in its wake. We are beginning to see major rumblings of change insofar as voters can make that possible. In the UK, Boris Johnson is on notice and more members of parliament have come to realize and reflect the fury of voters. In France, Macron’s hegemony is over with the arrival of powerful new parties at the gates. In the US, Biden’s unpopularity is legion while upcoming challengers at all levels are motivated by a fierce desire to know how this happened and what to do to prevent its repeat. The Wall Street Journal’s Daniel Henniger has written a fantastic reflection on the big picture and the growing upheavals. Portions are excerpted below. We would only add a major lesson of the last two years: the influence of sitting politicians has clearly been bested by the administrative state, which in most countries imagines itself to be the true rulers of the social order, contrary to all democratic principles. This machinery needs a fundamental challenge if there will be genuine reform.
Biden looks everywhere to lower gas prices — except boosting oil production President Joe Biden has pushed a series of policies and executive actions to lower gasoline prices, but hasyet to back boosting domestic oil production. The president called on Congress Wednesday to implement a three-month gas tax holiday which would reduce pump prices by 18 cents a gallon and diesel fuel prices by 24 cents per gallon. Pushing a temporary gas tax pause is Biden’s latest attempt to address gasoline prices which remain near all-time highs, according to AAA data. “President Biden understands that a gas tax holiday alone will not, on its own, relieve the run up in costs that we’ve seen,” the White House said in an announcement. “But the President believes that at this unique moment when the war in Ukraine is imposing costs on American families, Congress should do what it can to provide working families breathing room.” In recent months, Biden has ordered three separate releases from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve and issued a waiver allowing the sale of gas with higher biofuel concentration as prices skyrocketed. The president warned oil companies last week he would take action if they didn’t boost petroleum refining capacity. The White House has also reportedly weighed a fuel export ban and gas rebate program. However, the Biden administration has simultaneously doubled down on its climate agenda, canceling multiple oil and gas lease sales, revoking the Keystone XL pipeline permit and begging Middle Eastern producers to boost output.
Senate Unveils Language of Gun Control Deal: Expands Background Checks, Expands Prohibited Purchasers The Senate unveiled Tuesday the language of the bipartisan gun control deal Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) struck with Democrats at Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s (R-KY) behest. NPR reports that the gun control expands background checks for gun buyers ages 18-20. The legislation also expands the prohibited buyers list by adding dating relationships under the domestic violence clause, thus closing the “boyfriend loophole” Democrats have been arguing against for years. The legislation also contains financial incentives for states that agree to adopt red flag laws. Rep. Matt Gaetz anticipated the financial incentives for red laws, telling Breitbart News Saturday that the Cornyn gun control package uses “federal money to bribe states to enact red flag laws.” Gaetz then restated it, saying, the Cornyn gun control package is “literally using the federal government to bribe the states to deprive citizens of their Second Amendment rights.” The NRA responded to the gun control by saying it “falls short at every level.”They added, “This legislation can be abused to restrict lawful gun purchases, infringe upon the rights of law-abiding Americans, & use fed dollars to fund gun control measures being adopted by state & local politicians.”
Supreme Court says Second Amendment guarantees right to carry guns in public The Supreme Court ruled Thursday that the Constitution provides a right to carry a gun outside the home, issuing a major decision on the meaning of the Second Amendment. The 6-3 ruling was the court’s second important decision on the right to “keep and bear arms.” In a landmark 2008 decision, the court had said for the first time that the amendment safeguards a person’s right to possess firearms, although the decision was limited to keeping guns at home for self-defense. The court has now taken that ruling to the next step after years of ducking the issue and applied the Second Amendment beyond the limits of homeowners’ property in a decision that could affect the ability of state and local governments to impose a wide variety of firearms regulations. The case involved a New York law that required showing a special need to get a permit to carry a concealed handgun in public. The state bans carrying handguns openly, but it allows residents to apply for licenses to carry them concealed. The law at issue said, however, that permits could be granted only to applicants who demonstrated some special need — a requirement that went beyond a general desire for self-protection.
The media bubble is real: Study shows massive disconnect between journalists, public To say there’s a disconnect between many journalists and the public they serve is a gross understatement, according to a new in-depth survey by the nonpartisan Pew Research Center. Per Pew, 65 percent of the nearly 12,000 journalists surveyed say the media do a solid job of “covering the most important stories of the day” and reporting news accurately. But a solid majority of the American public at large has the opposite view, with just 35 percent feeling the same way. That’s a 30-point perception gap. When asked if journalists perform well when “serving as a watchdog over elected leaders,” 52 percent of journalists agreed. But the number dropped precipitously again when the general public was asked, with less than 3 in 10 agreeing with the assessment. When asked if journalists manage and correct misinformation consistently, 43 percent of those in the industry said yes, while just 25 percent of the general public agreed. Almost half (46 percent) of journalists said they felt connected to their readers and viewers, while just one-quarter of the public says they feel connected to the media outlets from which they get their news. So why the disconnect? Perhaps it’s like the old saying about the key to good real estate: Location, location location. Most of the national media are located in two places: New York City and Washington, D.C.
