Thursday on The Robert Scott Bell Show:

Sacred Fire of Liberty!

It’s that time of the week where we get to explore the political healing that this country needs so desperately! Jonathan Emord is back to help us dissect the latest political news that’s fit to print:

New York City launches vaccine passport New York City will require proof of vaccination for people who want to dine indoors and take part in other activities like gyms and theaters and for those who work there. It is the city’s most aggressive step yet in tackling the highly contagious delta variant. “This is a miraculous place, literally full of wonders,” Mayor Bill de Blasio said. “If you’re vaccinated, all that’s gonna open up to you.  If you have the key, you can open the door. If you’re unvaccinated, unfortunately, you will not be able to participate in many things.” De Blasio said New York City is the first in the nation to take this approach. The Key to NYC Pass will launch on Aug. 16, 2021, and be enforced starting on Sept. 13, 2021. The New York City Hospitality Alliance said this policy makes more sense than another shutdown. “There’s no doubt that this mandate is going to pose significant challenges for local restaurants, bars, and workers,” Executive Director Andrew Rigie said. “But we also recognize that we cannot go back down to reduced occupancy and shutdown orders, which could likely happen if we do nothing now.” New Yorkers can provide proof of vaccination by pulling up the NYC Covid Safe app, which is the new coronavirus vaccination app the city is rolling out.  The app allows a user to upload a copy of the user’s photo ID, vaccination card, and results of any COVID-19 test from the previous week.

Former Biden Coronavirus Adviser: NYC’s Vaccine Mandate Will Likely Be ‘Copied Around the Country’ Andy Slavitt, former Biden White House COVID-19 Response Coordinator and former acting administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, praised Mayor Bill de Blasio’s (D) plan to discriminate against unvaccinated individuals by forcing indoor restaurants, gyms, and entertainment venues to require patrons to show proof of vaccination prior to entry and predicted that such a policy will be “copied around the country” down the road. The Democrat mayor featured Slavitt at Tuesday’s press conference, where de Blasio introduced the “Key to NYC Pass” initiative, which will effectively prevent unvaccinated individuals from participating in many everyday life activities, such as dining in a restaurant. Slavitt divided people into three groups of concern: the vaccinated, willfully unvaccinated, and those who cannot be vaccinated due to age or a medical condition. “These kind of folks [the vaccinated] will have the ability to lead the kind of life they led prior to 2020 and really make the most of reuniting with their families, friends, and activities around New York,” he said, explaining that the third group must take priority above the other two and “be protected from the city.” “It is putting those people and their needs higher than people that have choices who are not taking them, that’s so essential,” Slavitt said, openly supporting intrusive policies to force the unvaccinated to succumb to the government’s demands. “The questions people have now about society will be cleared up with this announcement. Can I go into this restaurant? Can I go into this gym safely? Can I go to this doctor? Should I go to this hospital? Should I go to this movie? New York City will be the first city in the country that takes those questions off the table completely as this gets implemented,” Slavitt continued, contending that the policy is not pitting people against each other. Rather, he said these coercive efforts should be viewed as a “choice that benefits everybody.”

Former Obama Official Demands ‘a No-Fly List for Unvaccinated Adults’ Former Assistant Secretary for Homeland Security under President Obama Juliette Kayyem called Tuesday for the Biden administration to restrict the unvaccinated from flying by placing them on a no-fly list. Kayyem claimed in the Atlantic that “a no-fly list for unvaccinated adults is an obvious step that the federal government should take” due to TSA PreCheck, which “divide[s] passengers into categories according to how much of a threat the government thinks they pose.” At the time of publication, the headline for the piece echoed this line, stating bluntly: “Unvaccinated People Belong on the No-Fly List.” The headline has since been changed to a more ambiguous sentence: “Unvaccinated People Need to Bear the Burden.” The original headline still appears on social media shares of the article from The Atlantic‘s own account. “If you submit to heightened scrutiny in advance,” Kayyem said, “TSA PreCheck lets you go through security without taking off your shoes; a no-fly list keeps certain people off the plane entirely.” The author continues: Flying is not a right, and the case for restricting it to vaccinated people is straightforward: The federal government is the sole entity that can regulate the terms and conditions of airline safety. And although air-filtration systems and mask requirements make transmission of the coronavirus unlikely during any given passenger flight, infected people can spread it when they leave the airport and take off their mask. The whole point of international-travel bans is to curb infections in the destination country; to protect itself, the United States still has many such restrictions in place. Beyond limiting the virus’s flow from hot spots to the rest of the country, allowing only vaccinated people on domestic flights will change minds, too.

Secretary of Defense Austin to announce mandatory vaccine policy for all active-duty military Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin is expected Friday to announce a mandatory vaccine policy for all active-duty forces in the U.S. military, Fox News has confirmed. The directive that all 1.3 million service members will be required to get shots in their arms comes just days after President Biden urged all federal employees to get vaccinated. In a speech last week, Biden said he was directing the Defense Department to examine how to make the COVID-19 vaccine mandatory.  The Department of Justice was also asked by the president to look into the legality of mandating for the military a vaccine that has yet to be approved by the Food and Drug Administration. DOJ officials said a vaccine mandate would require a presidential waiver. Officials told Fox News that Austin will make his recommendation to the White House tomorrow, and the formal announcement is expected to come Friday. About 64% of active-duty forces are fully vaccinated. Among all U.S. adults, about 70% have received at least one shot. Last week, Biden said federal employees and on-site contractors would be required to get the vaccine or be subject to regular testing.

Question of The Day!

Hello Robert,
My husband came home today saying the employees who have not gotten the shot at a large plumbing supply house he frequents must wear a mask. The Last couple of months they were mask free. Isn’t this discrimination? Separation of the “lepards”.. I’m so p.o.’d. Is it worth writing to Corporate? Thank you. Also, my nurse friend at CHOP will soon be out of a job as they have mandated the shot for ALL employees.

Coming soon: America’s own social credit system The new domestic “War on Terror,” kicked off by the riot on Jan. 6, has prompted several web giants to unveil predecessors to what effectively could become a soft social credit system by the end of this decade. Relying on an indirect hand from D.C., our social betters in corporate America will attempt to force the most profound changes our society has seen during the internet era. China’s social credit system is a combination of government and business surveillance that gives citizens a “score” that can restrict the ability of individuals to take actions — such as purchasing plane tickets, acquiring property or taking loans — because of behaviors. Given the position of several major American companies, a similar system may be coming here sooner than you think. Last week, PayPal announced a partnership with the left-wing Southern Poverty Law Center to “investigate” the role of “white supremacists” and propagators of “anti-government” rhetoric, subjective labels that potentially could impact a large number of groups or people using their service. PayPal says the collected information will be shared with other financial firms and politicians. Facebook is taking similar measures, recently introducing messages that ask users to snitch on their potentially “extremist” friends, which considering the platform’s bias seems mainly to target the political right. At the same time, Facebook and Microsoft are working with several other web giants and the United Nations on a database to block potential extremist content.

Biden’s Band-Aid Eviction Moratorium Last May, while teasing a run for the governor of Texas, eccentric actor Matthew McConaughey famously quipped, “I’m not interested in going and putting a bunch of Band-Aids on that are gonna be ripped off as soon as I’m out.” The sentiment McConaughey captures with this statement is remarkable. He recognizes the difference between the long term and the short term. Thoughtful forward thinking vs. temporary band-aids. If only there were more McConaughey’s in office today! Unfortunately for us, we are stuck with the usual suspects: career politicians and their armies of band-aid deploying bureaucrats. Now back to the present. Yesterday the Biden administration revived its unconstitutional band-aid ban on evictions. Biden directed the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to issue a new eviction moratorium – stalling evictions for 60 days in “counties with heightened levels of community transmission.” Based on current CDC case data and a statement from Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, the new moratorium will cover over 90% of the country. As with any band-aid solution, this maneuver seeks to alleviate short-term problems while disregarding long-term consequences. In this case, tenants will feel a temporary cushion, at least until the moratorium expires, while we all will be stuck with the political and economic consequences of the President’s short-term directive.

The Real Cost of Public Debt Is Not a Dollar Amount; It’s Freedom As the United States national debt soars above $29 trillion, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) warns that Congress will run out of cash by the fall unless the debt ceiling is raised. Talk about debt has always been a contentious issue in policy. Recently after the pandemic, however, such talk is becoming more rampant in academia. Indeed, several academics have written books, directed at the general public, arguing that the amount of debt needn’t be of concern. For example, last year Stephanie Kelton published a book titled The Deficit Myth, arguing for the use of monetary policy to offset the costs of debt for the purposes of macroeconomic stability. Moreover, this fall a book titled In Defense of Public Debt will be published that makes a different, yet similar conclusion as Kelton’s book: public debts provide a means for macroeconomic stability—in this case, amid times of emergencies and crises. The model underlying macroeconomic stability is an aggregative framework that sums up all the costs and income/output for a given economy. Using this type of model, some macroeconomists argue that (internally held) public debts are of no concern in the aggregate, due to the law of large numbers: the costs of public debt are canceled out by (predicted) benefits. Does this sound strange? Is an aggregate model truly appropriate for a world of heterogeneous people? Among others, Nobel Laureate in Economics Friedrich Hayek said that one of the downfalls to the macroeconomic framework is that it hides the differences among microeconomic data—which, in the case of public debt, are the costs imposed on people.

The Authoritarians: Their Assault on Individual Liberty, the Constitution, and Free Enterprise from the 19th Century to the Present

Jonathan W. Emord is one of the nation’s foremost experts on constitutional and administrative law and has practiced before the federal courts and agencies for thirty-five years. In The Authoritarians, Emord reveals the untold story and largely hidden practices of Authoritarians who have worked inside the United States government to undermine the Constitution and override rights protections since the earliest days of the Progressive Era. Emord traces the intellectual origins of Authoritarianism to its Hegelian roots in Germany. He shows how legions of academics, trained to hate the American system of government, became predominant in the major universities of America, entered government as top advisors, and successfully orchestrated an overthrow of the Constitution’s limits on power which put the rights of individuals in jeopardy from the Progressive Era through the New Deal to today. In The Authoritarians, readers learn how Authoritarians endorsed forced sterilization of 60,000 American citizens whom they deemed “undesirable” and “unfit”. Readers also learn how Authoritarians selectively created monopolies and overcame the constitutional limits on government power the Founding Fathers put in the Constitution to prevent tyranny, thus ushering in the foundation for a socialist state.

In The Authoritarians, Emord reveals the lies told by advocates of the Black Lives Matter organization, Antifa, and the 1619 Project. He presents the startling fact that the first slaves in the Jamestown Colony in 1619 were not blacks, but whites and that in the antebellum South slave owners were not only white, but black. Readers also learn the inherent failings of socialism; the tremendous cost it imposes on human lives; and the grave threat to the survival and success of liberty and justice in America posed by Authoritarians such as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Bernie Sanders, Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Ed Markey, Joe Biden, and Kamala Harris. The Authoritarians unveils a detailed strategy for restoring constitutional protection for individual rights and fending off the horrors of a socialist tidal wave now drenching America.

NY Archdiocese Warns Priests Not to Grant Religious Vaccine Exemptions The Archdiocese of New York has instructed priests not to grant religious exemptions for COVID-19 vaccines, saying that do so would contradict the pope. “There is no basis for a priest to issue a religious exemption to the vaccine,” stated a July 30 memo from the archdiocese’s chancellor, John P. Cahill, to all pastors, administrators, and parochial vicars in the archdiocese. “Pope Francis has made it very clear that it is morally acceptable to take any of the vaccines and said we have the moral responsibility to get vaccinated. Cardinal Dolan has said the same,” the memo stated. By issuing a religious exemption to the vaccine, a priest would be “acting in contradiction to the directives of the Pope and is participating in an act that could have serious consequences to others,” the memo stated. A screenshot of the memo was circulated on social media this weekend. CNA confirmed the memo’s accuracy with the archdiocese and with a priest of the archdiocese on Monday. In a television interview in January, Pope Francis said, “I believe that, ethically, everyone has to get the vaccine.” In a December 2020 note, the Vatican’s Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith stated that “vaccination is not, as a rule, a moral obligation” and “therefore, it must be voluntary.” The Vatican congregation acknowledged “reasons of conscience” for those refusing a vaccine. Vaccine mandates have begun to be announced at places of employment in the United States. The Catholic health care network Ascension will mandate coronavirus vaccination for employees, physicians, volunteers, and vendors, although it has promised some health-related and religious exemptions.
