Hour 1 – Sacred Fire of Liberty!
It’s that time of the week where we get to explore the political healing that this country needs so desperately! Jonathan Emord is back to help us dissect the latest political news that’s fit to print:
Democratic 2020 Hopefuls: All Roads Lead To Single-Payer The Democratic Party’s presidential hopefuls are diverse in all ways but one— their stance on healthcare reform. The front-runners want to eliminate private insurance and put everyone on a government-run plan. But that’s not something they’ve been enthusiastic about revealing to voters. Senator Elizabeth Warren recently refused to say whether she would support a single-payer plan that eliminated private health insurance. Instead, she offered the vague goal of “affordable health care for every American” and insisted that there are “different ways we can get there.” Senator Cory Booker has claimed he would not want to eliminate private health insurance. Their legislative records tell a different story. The question is not whether Democrats favor eliminating private insurance — it’s how fast they’ll do it.
FDA chief: Federal government might step in if states don’t change lax vaccine laws The head of the US Food and Drug Administration says that if states don’t require more schoolchildren to get vaccinated, the federal government might have to step in. Nearly all states allow children to attend school even if their parents opt out of vaccines. These vaccine exemptions are especially popular in Washington state, where a measles outbreak started last month that has now sickened at least 67 people in four states. And New York has been working to contain its largest outbreak in decades, which began in October and has sickened more than 200 people. “Some states are engaging in such wide exemptions that they’re creating the opportunity for outbreaks on a scale that is going to have national implications,” FDA Commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb said Tuesday in an interview with CNN. If “certain states continue down the path that they’re on, I think they’re going to force the hand of the federal health agencies,” he added.
The Next Mandatory Vaccine Battleground: Homeschool Children In general, the public is opposed to removing parental consent to vaccines, and most bills seeking to remove parental authority have been met with stiff opposition and been defeated at the state level. One bill that was successful, was SB277 which was passed in California in 2015 removing the religious and philosophical exemptions to vaccines. Today, the only option parents in California have to get an exemption to vaccines as a requirement for school attendance, is to get their doctor to sign a medical exemption. However, the pro-pharmaceutical lobby in California has not been satisfied with the results of SB277, and are now going after doctors who write medical exemptions for vaccines. While a lawsuit against the California State Medical Board for illegally targeting medical doctors who write legitimate medical exemptions to vaccines for their patients makes its way through the legal process, most doctors in California now fear writing medical exemptions to vaccines as they would risk losing their license to practice medicine in California.
Jussie Smollett Turns Himself in on Disorderly Conduct Charge: CPD “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett turned himself in to police Thursday morning, a Chicago police spokesman said, on a felony charge of disorderly conduct in filing a false police report. Police said in a press conference hours later that Smollett sent a “false letter that relied on racial, homophobic and political language” to himself and staged a hate crime attack in Chicago because he was “dissatisfied with his salary.” “This announcement today recognizes that ‘Empire’ actor Jussie Smolett took advantage of the pain and anger of racism to promote his career. I’m left hanging my head and asking why,” Chicago Police Supt. Eddie Johnson said. Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi confirmed to NBC Chicago that Smollett surrendered to police at around 5 a.m. at CPD’s Central Booking station at West 18th Street and South State Street.
Brucella Infection Outbreak Blamed on Raw Milk Producers Turns out to be Caused by Brucella Vaccine in Commercial Dairies Recent headlines about a Brucella outbreak in 19 states blamed raw milk dairies. But one raw milk dairy in Pennsylvania has sent out an email update to its customers explaining that the Brucella outbreak is actually “an antibiotic resistant, modified live strain of Brucella that veterinarians give to cows as a vaccination.” The farm in this brucellosis case was not even licensed or permitted for raw milk sales. Raw milk producers that are allowed to produce raw milk legally in some states (many states do not allow it all), must pass much more stringent sanitary inspections than even commercial dairies. As we have reported for many years here at Health Impact News, conscientious dairy farmers who choose to market a high-end product directly to the consumer are a threat to the subsidized commercial dairy industry. These brave farmers have endured a lot of persecution from government regulatory bodies who try to shut them down, and deny consumers access to a healthier, and safer, dairy product. Here is the letter from Pennsylvania farmer Edwin Shank setting the record straight on this most recent attack against raw milk dairy farmers.
Question of The Day!
I have a 5 month old son who developed a rash about 3 months ago. People were telling me it was baby acne and it would come and go. A few weeks ago it came back and its getting worse and spreading. Upon lots of research, I believe this is Impetigo. (Caught from me, I had strep throat a few months ago). Everything in me is saying dont get antibiotics but I dont want to put him in danger if this is a serious thing. Any natural cures?
P.s. I am reading a lot about Manuka honey, I know I can’t give honey internally yet as he is 5 months old (correct me if that is hog wash), but is it ok to use topically and if so, is it effective?

Assembly member Pat Burke co-sponsors legislation to ban vaccine exemptions Assemblymemer Pat Burke, (D) Buffalo, has announced he is co-sponsoring legislation that would ban exemptions from vaccines. He said if parents wish to have their children attend school in New York state and have no medical condition, they should be vaccinated – no exception. “If someone has an auto-immune disease and just can’t have it, or there are several reasons why someone can’t be vaccinated, those are the exemptions. But there are no non-medical exemptions.” Burke said the bill would ban non-medical exemptions, including religous beliefs, which is what one mother in East Aurora wanted for her children. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there have been 101 documented cases of measles across 10 states between January first and February seventh of this year – including New York State.
It’s Time to Admit That Anti-Vaxxers are Terrorists Fringe conspiracy-theorist terrorists, called ‘anti-vaxxers’ are multiplying so fast that some counties, cities, and states have vaccination rates below community or ‘herd’ immunity levels across the U.S. With more parents buying into the conspiracy that vaccines contain toxins, cause autism, and are unsafe, children, the elderly, and immunocompromised are suffering. These people need to be called out for what they are; anti-vaxxers are terrorists that kill and harm our children. Even if you oppose anti-vaxxers, you might think it’s too extreme to use the “terrorist” label in this case. I do not. Though there is no single agreed-upon definition of terrorism, most agree that it consists of using fear as a tool to achieve political or social change while disregarding harm done to others in the process. I think anti-vaxxers meet every part of that definition.
The Monkees’ bassist Peter Tork dead at 77 Peter Tork, the bassist for 1960s rock favorites the Monkees, is dead at 77. Tork’s cause of death is not yet public, though he was diagnosed with a rare tongue cancer, adenoid cystic carcinoma, in 2009. Tork’s Monkees bandmate Micky Dolenz confirmed the news on Twitter, writing, “There are no words right now…heart broken over the loss of my Monkee brother, Peter Tork.” The band’s official Twitter also paid tribute to Tork with a clip of the singer. “@TorkTweet has passed peacefully at the age of 77. We’ll be remembering him throughout the day. Share your favorite memories of Peter below.”
