I Think We May Have Gone Too Far Here….

Girl Scouts: Don’t make your daughter hug relatives this holiday At a time when issues of sexual harassment and consent are in the news, and with the holidays just around the corner, the Girl Scouts have released a recommendation about how parents can help young girls handle affection. A “Reminder” post on the GSUSA website tells parents, “She doesn’t owe anyone a hug. Not even at the holidays.” The “hugs” here are obviously of a non-sexual nature: Doting aunts and grandparents who are inclined to big embraces and cheek pinches at holiday gatherings. However, the GSUSA’s post says this could set the stage for unexpected emotional consequences.

Special Guest – Dr. Paul Connett!

Paul Connett is Professor Emeritus in Environmental Chemistry at St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY. For the past 30 years, Paul has put his scientific knowledge to work by helping (without fee) communities around the world understand the science of controversial issues like incineration and fluoridation.

Paul has researched the literature on fluoride’s toxicity and the fluoridation debate for 17 years. He helped to found the Fluoride Action Network (FAN) at http://www.fluoridealert.org/.

Fluoride Exposure in Utero Linked to Lower IQ in Kids, New Study Says In a new study published on September 19, 2017, in the journal Environmental Health Perspectives, researchers have found a link between fluoride in the urine of pregnant women and lower measures of intelligence in children. The new study found a very large effect. An increase in urine fluoride of 1 mg/L was associated with a drop in IQ of 5 to 6 points. To put this into perspective with the fluoride levels ingested by the Mexican mothers and the levels ingested in fluoridated parts of the USA, the average fluoride intake in the Mexican mothers was about the same as that in women in the USA. It was not substantially higher. The range of fluoride levels in Mexico also corresponded closely to the range found in most of the USA. The higher levels were similar to what is found in areas in the USA with fluoridated water, and the lower levels were similar to what is found in most unfluoridated parts of the USA.

It Worked So Good Before…Lets Bring It Back!

Startup could bring back Vioxx for hemophilia Could the once-popular arthritis pill Vioxx (VEYE-ochs) get a second life? A startup pharmaceutical company hopes so. In 2004, Merck & Co. voluntarily pulled the blockbuster drug amid evidence it doubled the chances of having a heart attack or stroke. Now tiny Tremeau (treh-MOH’) Pharmaceuticals is working to Vioxx back, to treat severe joint pain caused by the bleeding disorder hemophilia. That would be for far fewer patients than the millions who took Vioxx pills for arthritis and other chronic pain.

An Ounce of Prevention Is Worth A Pound Of Cure

Nearly half of US cancer deaths blamed on unhealthy behavior A new look at cancer in the U.S. finds that nearly half of cancer deaths are caused by smoking, poor diet and other unhealthy behaviors. That’s less than commonly-cited estimates from more than 35 years ago, a result of new research methods and changes in American society. Smoking rates have plummeted, for example, while obesity rates have risen dramatically. The study found that 45 percent of cancer deaths and 42 percent of diagnosed cancer cases could be attributed to what the authors call “modifiable” risk factors. These are risks that are not inherited, and mostly the result of behavior that can be changed, like exposure to sun, not eating enough fruits and vegetables, drinking alcohol and, most importantly, smoking.

Special Guest – Michael Tyrrell!

Michael is an author, visionary, musician, composer, and producer. He exists to bring love, healing and motivation to a hurting world and in turn, inspire others in our generation to do the same.

Michael S. Tyrrell is the mastermind behind Wholetones, a music designed to produce healing sensations delivered through specific tonal frequencies. Prior to developing Wholetones in the mid-2010s, Tyrrell worked as a Christian music songwriter and producer, additionally releasing several albums of his own material. Tyrrell learned guitar as a child and began pursuing music in his teens. He had a spiritual
awakening as an adult, after which he devoted himself to Christian music. Initially he worked with Mylon LeFevre & Broken Heart, then he became a worship leader in his own right. In 2002 he released the album The Burning Man under the name Michael Shawn Tyrrell, followed by 2006’s Change and 2011’s Downside Up as Michael Tyrrell. In 2014 he launched Wholetones, the project that made his name. Wholetones was available in a variety of incarnations, several of which included bonus books and DVDs explaining how these sonic frequencies were designed to heal the body. These variations — including a Wholetones for soothing dogs — came as the project gained popularity over the next few years.

We have a special offer for listeners to the RSB show.
