Friday on The Robert Scott Bell Show:
For Expensive New Drugs, Biopharma Should Make Money-Back Guarantees Mandatory In a recent paper on “Value-Based Pricing for Drugs”, authors Anna Kaltenboeck and Peter B. Bach of the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center discuss the high cost of drugs, particularly the newly introduced gene therapies and biologicals, and the emerging new policy ideas designed to cope with the impact of these drugs on the healthcare system. The authors focus on three general themes: aligning drug price with drug benefits; altering the mechanism of drug payment; and aligning demand with value. All of these approaches merit discussion as we all grapple with the issue for paying for new drugs that can cure deadly diseases. The authors state “value-based pricing is becoming an important policy idea in the United States”. They go on to say that “value-based pricing is being promoted as a response to high drug prices. But as the term gains traction, distinctions in both method and likelihood of improving aligning prices with value should be carefully considered.” It’s hard to argue with that. However, there is one step that the biopharma industry can immediately take which will help its credibility as well as help the healthcare system: offer money-back guarantees when drugs don’t work as promised.

The Healing Revolution with Dr. Frank King!
How do you get the body that you want? With Appetite & Weight Control Formula with PHAT! King Bio Appetite & Weight with P.H.A.T is a homeopathic formula to help balance glands, metabolism, and appetite as part of a weight loss program. P.H.A.T is King Bio’s acronym for the glands that when out of balance may cause fat to be stored on the body: pituitary, hypothalamus, adrenals, thyroid. King Bio uses powerful yet gentle homeopathic ingredients to help balance the “P.H.A.T. Axis”. These glands and their hormones are responsible for metabolism and many essential functions in the body, perhaps even the way people store fat on their bodies. Some researchers believe imbalances in specific glands produce certain ‘body types’ and weight-gain patterns. Appetite & Weight with P.H.A.T. homeopathic spray contains 16 HPUS (Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia of the United States) homeopathic ingredients, aimed at balancing the glands and symptoms of excess weight. It also includes two flower remedies to help balance the emotions, which are often affected by weight loss programs. With King Bio Appetite & Weight with P.H.A.T., there is no need to dramatically restrict your calories. While using this homeopathic formula to help balance the glands and hormones responsible for appetite and weight, King Bio recommends eating a sensible, nutrient-rich, whole food diet of between 900 and 1,200 calories, or more depending on your build and activity level.

Look Out Big Alcohol!
Marijuana Gives Health-Conscious Consumers Something Alcohol Cannot The U.S. alcohol trade hasn’t had any real competition for more than eight decades, which has given it a clear path to become the mega $223 billion industry that it is today. But now that marijuana is legal in more parts of the country, booze slingers are starting to notice a slip in profits. The situation is expected to spiral into darker territory once the cannabis plant is dragged out of the pits of federal prohibition once and for all. Some experts say this development is only around three years away. The consensus is if alcohol producers do not find a way to reconnect with the consumer, they stand to lose out big time the second marijuana goes legal in all 50 states.
Hour 2 – Special Guest Heidi Parikh!
Heidi is the Founder & Chief Executive Officer of My Compassion, a 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofit organization that provides cannabis education and research. Under Heidi’s leadership, My Compassion became the first federally recognized cannabis nonprofit founded in the state of Michigan and fourth in the country to advocate and educate for the medicinal use of cannabis.
Heidi began advocating for cannabis in 2009 when she became the Executive Director of the Downriver Community Compassion Club, which serviced all Southeastern Michigan, through weekly public meetings and events on cannabis. Upon receiving federal approval in 2011, Heidi became President and CEO of My Compassion where she created the organizations infrastructure and programs. My Compassion provides outreach across Michigan and is charged with educating municipalities on the new laws and regulations. Through her supervision, My Compassion was responsible for ground breaking accomplishments like winning the 1st Google Adwords Grant using the word “cannabis” and being accepted into the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) which federal employees are encouraged to donate. The Google announcement had a profound effect across the country and gave the Industry the confidence it needed to forge ahead.
Since 2011 Heidi has increased the organizations revenues and in-kind donations to help expand on patient and provider learning outcomes, and ending preventable disease and pain through clinical studies and trials on cannabis. Heidi has spoken publicly on cannabis at over 300 public meetings and presentations. She has written and published several newspapers and articles on medical cannabis.
Prior to My Compassion, Heidi worked in the private sector in restaurant management for 30 years. As an entrepreneur, her love for food and beverage, led her to open three full service restaurants in Southwest Michigan. Heidi’s restaurants employed over 200 people and served regulars like Mohamed Ali and Debbie Reynolds. Upon leaving the restaurant business Heidi spent time with her four children and grandchildren, prior to her nonprofit work.
Special Guest – Becky Faber!
4-year-old Flushing girl fighting brain cancer stays determined, smiling It’s been a chaotic and frightening past couple of months for Becky Faber and her family. While her oldest daughter was getting ready for prom at Flushing High School, her youngest – 4-year-old Ashlynn – was with her parents in Memphis fighting to save her life. “It’s a complete life change of what you’re used to,” Faber said. “There is no routine. You don’t know what’s going on one day to the next.” Surrounded by a lot of love and support, Ashlynn is taking one day at a time to beat brain cancer. And the community is rallying behind her. A fundraiser for the family is scheduled for 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 14, at Sharky’s Sports Bar, 4050 S. Center Road in Burton. Tickets are $15 and include pizza, mostacciolo salad and bread sticks. There will be live bands, raffles, silent auctions, bake sales and a 50/50 raffle. The family’s journey started in March. In the middle of March, Ashlynn got sick and her parents thought she just had the stomach flu. She was throwing up and not feeling well for eight or nine days and they took her to see a doctor, who also thought it was the flu. On March 27, the family was in Grand Rapids and Faber noticed Ashlynn was playing with her left eye closed. Ashlynn said he was blurry. Still feeling sick, her parents called the doctor and she was told to go to the emergency room.
