Medical schools are lowering standards in the name of “equity” to boost minority acceptance (while abandoning quality of care) America’s top medical schools — including Columbia, Harvard, the University of Chicago, Stanford, Mount Sinai, and the University of Pennsylvania — are all lowering their academic standards for admission in order to boost minority acceptance and graduation rates. The loosening of standards is being conducted in the name of “equity” “diversity” and “inclusion.” Lowering medical school standards will have profound consequences in the years to come, especially in a medical environment that is already overrun by corruption and malpractice. The importance of academic achievement in medical education Academic achievement is a critical component of medical education. Students who have excelled academically are better equipped to handle the rigorous coursework and demanding workload that comes with medical school. They are also better prepared to provide high-quality care to patients once they enter the workforce. The Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) is a standardized test that is used by medical schools to evaluate the academic readiness of prospective students. The test is designed to assess critical thinking, problem-solving, and knowledge of scientific concepts.

Pesticides in produce: 2023’s list of most and least contaminated foods Blueberries, beloved by nutritionists for their anti-inflammatory properties, have joined fiber-rich green beans in this year’s Dirty Dozen of nonorganic produce with the most pesticides, according to the Environmental Working Group, a nonprofit environmental health organization. In the 2023 Shopper’s Guide to Pesticides in Produce, researchers analyzed testing data on 46,569 samples of 46 fruits and vegetables conducted by the US Department of Agriculture. Each year, a rotating list of produce is tested by USDA staffers who wash, peel or scrub fruits and vegetables as consumers would before the food is examined for 251 different pesticides. As in 2022, strawberries and spinach continued to hold the top two spots on the Dirty Dozen, followed by three greens — kale, collard and mustard. Listed next were peaches, pears, nectarines, apples, grapes, bell and hot peppers, and cherries. Blueberries and green beans were 11th and 12th on the list. A total of 210 pesticides were found on the 12 foods, the report said. Kale, collard and mustard greens contained the largest number of different pesticides — 103 types — followed by hot and bell peppers at 101. “Some of the USDA’s tests show traces of pesticides long since banned by the Environmental Protection Agency. Much stricter federal regulation and oversight of these chemicals is needed,” the report said.

Governor Hochul Files Appeal in Quarantine Camp Lawsuit Late in the day on Monday March 13, 2023, just hours before the deadline, New York Attorney General, Letitia James, filed an appeal to try to overturn our successful lawsuit that struck down Governor Hochul’s unconstitutional “Isolation and Quarantine Procedures” regulation. The case, Borrello v. Hochul, which we won last July, was brought against the Governor and her Department of Health, on behalf of a group of NYS Legislators, Senator George Borrello, Assemblyman Chris Tague, Assemblyman (now Congressman) Mike Lawler, together with our citizens’ group, Uniting NYS. The main premise of the case was breach of Separation of Powers – meaning the Governor and her Department of Health did not have the authority to make their dystopian “Isolation and Quarantine Procedures” regulation. The Regulation: For anyone unfamiliar with this regulation, it allowed the Department of Health to pick and choose which New Yorkers they could lock up or lock down, with no proof that you were ever even exposed to, let alone actually sick with, a communicable disease. They could have locked you down in your home, or they could have removed you from your home and forced you to quarantine in a facility of their choosing. There was no time restriction, so you could have been quarantined for however long they required – days, weeks, months. There was no age restriction, so they could have done this to you, to your child, to your grandchild, etc. In the true fashion of a totalitarian regime, they could have told you what you could and could not do while in quarantine. They literally could have controlled your every move.

What’s on your plate? 60% of foods in America contain unhealthy additives Troubling new research finds the majority of foods purchased by Americans (60%) contain any number of artificial additives such as preservatives, sweeteners, and coloring or flavoring agents. Even worse, these levels represent a 10-percent increase since 2001. The study makes a strong case that the prevalence of food additives is on the rise in a major way. For instance, the average amount of additives in food and beverage products added by manufacturers has increased significantly between 2001 (3.7) and 2019 (4.5). Food additives are so ubiquitous in the first place thanks to their ability to extend various foods’ shelf lives and improve palatability. Despite this, the health consequences of consuming these substances are still woefully understudied and not clear. So, analyzing and better grasping the impact of food-additive exposure over time is a vital step in understanding its role in numerous negative health developments linked to their consumption, including increased bodyweight and negative changes to the gut microbiome. “Our research clearly shows that the proportion of ultra-processed foods with additives in Americans’ shopping carts increased significantly between 2001 and 2019. We observed this trend across all food and additive categories,” notes lead investigator Elizabeth K. Dunford, PhD, from the George Institute for Global Health, the University of New South Wales, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, in a media release.
Mexico to use traditional medicine, more Cuban doctors Health authorities in Mexico said Tuesday they will use more traditional medicine and more Cuban doctors in the country’s woefully under-equipped public hospital system. Zoe Robledo, the head of Mexico’s largest public hospital network, said at a news conference that the system will hire 753 practitioners of traditional massage and herbal treatments. The Social Security Institute will also employ “curanderos,” who are non-licensed healers who use bundles of herbs, smoke, alcohol and eggs to “draw” sickness out of the bodies of their patients. “Thanks to traditional medicine, humans have managed to overcome threats to their physical, emotional and spiritual well-being,” Health Secretary Jorge Alcocer said at the news conference. The hospitals and clinics will also employ midwifes and people who practice a traditional form of chiropractic medicine. Apparently, they won’t necessarily be licensed professionals. Instead, they will “base their treatment on ancestral knowledge,” according to a statement by the office of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador. The system also will seek to double the approximately 600 Cuban doctors who have been offered jobs in Mexico. While many Mexican hospitals lack specialized doctors—especially in rural or violence-plagued areas—the country’s health care system has even starker deficits of medicines, hospitals and equipment.
