Gov. Newsom Injured by Moderna Booster Shot, Source Tells The Defender A source close to California Gov. Gavin Newsom today told The Defender the governor experienced an adverse reaction to the Moderna COVID vaccine he received Oct. 27. The source, who asked not to be identified, said Newsom’s symptoms were similar to those associated with Guillain–Barré syndrome (GBS), a known side effect of many vaccines. GBS is a neurological disorder in which the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks part of its peripheral nervous system — the network of nerves located outside of the brain and spinal cord — and can range from a very mild case with brief weakness to paralysis to leaving the person unable to breathe independently. The governor has not been seen in public since he was photographed Oct. 27 getting his COVID booster. On Oct. 29, Newsom’s office issued a statement referring to unspecified “family obligations” as the reason the governor canceled his scheduled appearances, including his planned meetings at the global COP 26 climate conference in Glasgow, Scotland. A local ABC News outlet reported that when “the surprising announcement was made,” a spokesperson said Newsom planned to participate virtually in the climate conference. However, Newsom’s name was removed from the schedule and he did not participate. The Defender reached out to Newsom’s office today by phone and email, but the office did not respond before publication.

Sen. Warren Sued for Pressuring Amazon to Stop Selling ‘The Truth About COVID-19’ Warren specifically singled out my book, “The Truth About COVID-19,” co-written with Ronnie Cummins, founder and director of the Organic Consumers Association (OCA), as a prime example of “highly-ranked and favorably-tagged books based on falsehoods about COVID-19 vaccines and cures” that she wanted banned. “Dr. Mercola has been described as ‘the most influential spreader of coronavirus misinformation online,” Warren wrote, adding: “Not only was this book the top result when searching either ‘COVID-19’ or ‘vaccine’ in the categories of ‘All Departments’ and ‘Books’; it was tagged as a ‘Best Seller’ by Amazon and the ‘#1 Best Seller’ in the ‘Political Freedom’ category. “The book perpetuates dangerous conspiracies about COVID-19 and false and misleading information about vaccines. It asserts that vitamin C, vitamin D and quercetin … can prevent COVID-19 infection … And the book contends that vaccines cannot be trusted …” Warren should know that as a government official, it is illegal for her to violate the U.S. Constitution, and pressuring private businesses to do it for her is not a legal workaround. Since she willfully ignores the law, Cummins and I, along with our publisher, Chelsea Green Publishing, and Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who wrote our foreword, are suing Warren, both in her official and personal capacities, for violating our First Amendment rights.

Thousands gather in downtown L.A. to protest city worker COVID vaccine mandate Thousands gather outside Los Angeles City Hall Monday to protest the mandate for all city workers to get vaccinated against COVID-19 by Dec. 18. The vaccine requirements for city workers are meant to increase vaccination rates and stave off another deadly COVID-19 surge as the virus continues to circulate and the more-transmissible delta variant spreads. The group Firefighters 4 Freedom organized the rally, dubbed “A March for Freedom,” saying it will be attended by firefighters, police officers, electrical workers, sanitation workers and city government employees. Aerial video from Sky5 showed a large crowd of people gathered in the area of 200 Main St. around 11 a.m., many carrying “thin blue line” and “thin red line” flags, and signs including ones saying “stop the mandate.” Retried LAPD Detective Moses Castillo was attending the rally. “I’m here to show support for the men and women in law enforcement, the firefighters, those working in sanitation… who are here not so much against being vaccinated, or the vaccine, but they’re against being forced to do so by our local government,” Castillo explained. John Knox, of Firefighters 4 Freedom, called the mandates unconstitutional. That’s an overreach on the government’s part, because it’s not your right to tell me what I do with my health care, what I put into my body,” Knox said.

White House Not Ruling Out Vaccine Requirements for ‘Domestic Travel’: Spokeswoman White House deputy press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said that the administration will not rule out imposing COVID-19 vaccine requirements for domestic travel as the United States lifted its travel ban on non-essential travel for vaccinated air and land travelers on Monday. When asked about restrictions being lifted for vaccinated travelers into the United States starting Monday and if the administration is considering extending vaccine requirements to domestic travel, Jean-Pierre demurred but did not rule it out. “So, we say this all time … everything’s on the table,” she said, adding: “We just don’t have any announcement to preview right now on this.” “So, I don’t have anything more to share on the domestic travel” policy, said Jean-Pierre, who is filling in for White House press secretary Jen Psaki. Psaki tested positive for COVID-19, the illness caused by the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus, on Oct. 31. It’s not clear if Jean-Pierre is referring to mandating vaccine rules for domestic air travel, Amtrak travel, or other forms of land travel. The Transportation Security Administration and several other government agencies often refer to flights within the United States as “domestic travel” or “domestic air travel.”

One of Fauci’s Top Doctors Opposes Vaccine Mandates, Will Debate Ethics at the NIH It turns out that the National Institutes of Health (NIH) was not as unified on the notion of pushing vaccine mandates as it initially seemed. Come December 1, the NIH’s main bioethics department will host a live-streamed roundtable session over the ethics and practicality of vaccine mandates. Leading the charge will be Dr. Matthew Memoli, who runs a clinical studies unit within Dr. Fauci’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), according to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ). Memoli, who has served at the NIH for 16 years and recently received an NIH director’s award, both opposes vaccine mandates and has declined the coronavirus vaccine, arguing that they should be reserved for vulnerable, elderly, and obese Americans. “I think the way we are using the vaccines is wrong,” he said to Dr. Fauci in an email on July 30. Regarding the existing vaccines, Memoli reportedly argued that “blanket vaccination of people at low risk of severe illness could hamper the development of more-robust immunity gained across a population from infection,” per the WSJ. The virtual roundtable will be just one of four ethics debates at the NIH this year and will be “accessible to all of the NIH’s nearly 20,000 staff, as well as patients and the public.” David Wendler, the senior NIH bioethicist planning the session, said that vaccine mandates have become a “hot topic at the NIH.

A prominent virologist warns COVID-19 pill could unleash dangerous mutants. Others see little cause for alarm The first oral antiviral for treating COVID-19, Merck & Co.’s molnupiravir, received approval from the U.K. Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency on 4 November. But the approval, for people at high risk of severe disease, comes as a prominent virologist has suggested using molnupiravir could do far more harm than good, potentially unleashing new, deadlier variants of SARS-CoV-2. Other virologists say the concern is worth tracking but is largely hypothetical, for now. “I don’t think we are in the position of withholding a lifesaving drug for a risk that may or may not happen,” says Aris Katzourakis, a viral evolution expert at the University of Oxford. Molnupiravir, which Merck and Ridgeback Biotherapeutics developed from an earlier, experimental antiviral, works by interfering with viral replication, littering the viral genome with mutations until the virus can no longer reproduce. Last month, Merck and Ridgeback officials announced results of a clinical trial that found giving the drug to COVID-19 patients early in the disease reduced their risk of hospitalization and death by 50%. The drug’s ability to mutate RNA has raised persistent fears that it could induce mutations in a patient’s own genetic material, possibly causing cancer or birth defects; studies so far have not borne out those fears.

Question of The Day!

I suffer with osteoarthritis of the right hip. Is there a homeopathic treatment for healing of this condition? The alternative is hip replacement. Thanks for a reply.

Hour 2

Special Guest Jill McLaughlin Grunewald

Founder of Coaches for Health Freedom

Jill is a Functional Medicine Certified Health Coach, founder of Healthful Elements, co-author of the #1 best-selling Essential Thyroid Cookbook, and fierce health freedom advocate. She’s written for many publications, doctors’ blogs, and online magazines, including Huffington Post, MindBodyGreen, and Experience Life magazine. She’s also a Content Specialist for one of CHF’s partner organizations, Stand for Health Freedom.

She’s successfully managed three autoimmune conditions (Celiac, Hashimoto’s, and alopecia) with a whole foods diet, smart supplementation, and lifestyle changes. Since 2006, Jill has helped hundreds of clients and students with hypothyroidism and Hashimoto’s do the same. In the past six years, she has also helped many with alopecia reverse their hair loss—something that many doctors insist is impossible.

In early 2020, Jill published this anti-mandate masterpiece, which has been called “epic,” “a profound act of bravery,” and “magnum opus.” As an advocate for medical freedom, Jill is particularly outspoken against medical racism—the deplorable history of government health regulators and pharmaceutical companies experimenting on the black community. When she’s not working, Jill enjoys playing just about any word game, watching her daughter eat dark leafy greens, listening to her classic country music collection, ogling mid-century design, and bird-watching in the wooded area behind her house.

How Coaches for Health Freedom Came to Be

Jill McLaughlin (formerly Grunewald) is a longtime health and nutrition coach. In her practice, Healthful Elements, she’s helped people take back their health and recover from hormone imbalances and autoimmune disorders.

After 14 years of health coaching, McLaughlin was feeling an unsettling amount of cognitive dissonance. There was an elephant in the room of her practice, especially with the children she works with who have alopecia.

“If you inflict risk on others and they are harmed, you need to pay some price for it.”

Nassim Nicholas Taleb

In 2019, after medical mandates being thrust upon residents of California and New York, she could see the writing on the wall. And in January of 2020, after months of hand-wringing, sleepless nights, fits and starts, and a few cocktails (rare for a near-teetotaler), Jill published this tour de force, speaking out for the first time against mandated medicine.

She boldly threw her readers (and others close to her) a curveball, seemingly coming out of nowhere to take a powerful stand against government and pharma corruption. Her work has since been hailed as “epic,” “a profound act of bravery,” and “magnum opus.”

“It’s impossible to lose your footing when you’re on your knees.”

Fulton Sheen

In those weeks of post-publication recovery, with messages of support coming from all over the world, Jill again hand-wrung about her next step. As someone close to her said, “I don’t see you publishing this and then skipping down the street.”

Numerous doctors, nurses, health coaches, chiropractors, and other healthcare practitioners started reaching out. Their questions touched her to the core:

  • Where did you get the guts to do this?
  • This topic has been heavy on my heart, but I’m too afraid to speak out for fear of alienating clients, patients, friends, and family.
  • I don’t want to lose my practice.

Thus, Coaches for Health Freedom (CHF), founded by Jill McLaughlin (Grunewald), was born.

Study highlights lifestyle medicine as potential solution to soaring health care costs for patients and payers The reversal of chronic disease through intensive, therapeutic lifestyle medicine intervention changes could result in significant health care cost savings and deserves further research to determine its full potential economic benefits, according to a case series published Oct. 29 in the International Journal of Environmental and Public Health. The , conducted by the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, examined four individual patient cases of disease reversal achieved through intensive lifestyle changes and the associated changes in . A substantial potential cost savings for both the patients and their insurance providers was identified in each case. For an who lost 150 to 200 pounds after committing to a lifestyle change for six months, this included potential savings of $92,000 in avoided discrete medical costs. “Our findings are important because accumulated chronic and are responsible for 90 percent of the $3.8 trillion spent each year on health care in the U.S.,” said ACLM Senior Director of Research Micaela Karlsen, Ph.D., MSPH. “Lifestyle medicine addresses the root causes of chronic disease to restore health with evidence-based treatment rather than the more common disease management approach of our health care system, under which costs have soared.”

Do your kids really need cough & cold meds? When children have colds, parents may want to hold off on using cough and cold medicines, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration suggests. Most get better on their own, and cough or won’t change the natural course of a cold or make it go away faster. Also, some cough and cold medicines can have , such as slowed breathing, which can be life-threatening, especially in infants and , the FDA warned. The agency doesn’t recommend over-the-counter (OTC) medicines for cough and cold symptoms in children younger than 2, and the products’ labels advise against giving them to children younger than 4. These products can harm children if they get more than the recommended dose, take the too often, or take more than one product that contains the same drug. For example, taking both a pain reliever containing acetaminophen and cough and cold medicine containing acetaminophen. Don’t give children medicines that are packaged and made for adults because adult medicines may overdose a child, the FDA said.

Dried spices can contain lead, arsenic and cadmium, Consumer Reports finds Dried herbs and spices added to food can be a “surprising and worrisome” source of heavy metals for kids and adults, a Consumer Reports investigation published on Tuesday found. When the organization tested 15 types of spices, almost one-third of the products from national and private-label brands — 40 of 126 — had high enough levels of arsenic, lead and cadmium combined, on average, “to pose a health concern for children when regularly consumed in typical serving sizes,” the report found. Adults could be affected, too. Thyme and oregano were particularly worrisome, with all the products tested containing heavy metal levels that CR experts called concerning. Consumer Reports also warned levels of lead were so high in 31 products that they exceeded the maximum amount anyone should have in a day. Lisa Gill, CR’s health and medicine investigative reporter, said she was “astounded” there was no way to predict which products would be problematic: it didn’t matter what the brand or country of origin was, or whether the spices were organic or not. “We thought that there would be certain signals that would help consumers make easy decisions in the spice aisle. But there are not,” Gill told TODAY. “All spices face the same trouble, and that is they can leach heavy metals out of water and soil.”
