NIH director backs away from suggestion that parents wear masks at home to protect kids The head of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) on Tuesday afternoon tried to walk back his comments from earlier in the day suggesting that parents wear masks at home to protect unvaccinated children. Dr. Francis Collins said “it’s clear” that the delta variant was capable of causing serious illness in kids while addressing whether young children should avoid indoor situations. He noted that while rare, there are many examples of young people being sickened by the virus and cited new recommendations for kids under 12 to avoid being in places where they might get infected and recommendations for universal masking at schools, and even for adults at home. “Parents of unvaccinated kids should be thoughtful about this and the recommendation is to wear masks there as well,” Collins said, while appearing on CNN. “I know that’s uncomfortable, I know it seems weird, but it is the best way to protect your kids.” However, he tweeted later Tuesday that he “garbled” his own message: “Vaccinated parents who live in communities with high COVID transmission rates should mask when out in public indoor settings to minimize risks to their unvaccinated kids. No need to mask at home.” As of July 27, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommend that anyone over age 2 regardless of vaccination status wear masks in public indoor settings. In guidance updated on July 16, the agency recommended that the best way to protect children too young to be vaccinated was for adult relatives to get themselves vaccinated, and to make sure the child wears a mask in public settings.
Physicians who post COVID-19 vaccine misinformation may lose license, medical panel says The Federation of State Medical Boards warned July 29 that physicians and other healthcare professionals could be at risk of losing their medical licenses if they spread COVID-19 vaccine misinformation on social media, online and in the media. FSMB, a nonprofit that represents all U.S. state medical boards, said any clinicians who create or spread vaccine misinformation or disinformation risk disciplinary action by state medical boards, including suspension or revocation of their medical license, according to a statement emailed to Becker’s Hospital Review. “Due to their specialized knowledge and training, licensed physicians possess a high degree of public trust and therefore have a powerful platform in society, whether they recognize it or not,” FSMB said. “They also have an ethical and professional responsibility to practice medicine in the best interests of their patients and must share information that is factual, scientifically grounded and consensus-driven for the betterment of public health.” In July, President Joe Biden called out social media platforms like Facebook for allowing vaccine misinformation to spread on its services, claiming that disinformation about the vaccines is “killing people,” according to CNBC.
Scientific Journal Paper Suggests Making It A ‘Federal Hate Crime’ To Criticize Fauci Dr. Hotez, who himself has been funded by Anthony Fauci’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) since 1993, offered the robust defense of scientists including Fauci and EcoHealth Alliance President Peter Daszak in a recent paper: “Mounting Antiscience Aggression In The United States.” “There is a troubling new expansion of antiscience aggression in the United States. It’s arising from far-right extremism,” the paper, published in the peer-reviewed Public Library of Science (PLOS) Biology journal, begins. “A band of ultraconservative members of the US Congress and other public officials with far-right leanings are waging organized and seemingly well-coordinated attacks against prominent US biological scientists. In parallel, conservative news outlets repeatedly and purposefully promote disinformation designed to portray key American scientists as enemies,” it reiterates. He links the alleged assault of scientists to a broader attempt of supporters of the “America First” movement to bring about a “modern day authoritarian regime”: Prior to 2021, a program of antiscience disinformation that dismissed the severity of the COVID-19 pandemic was aggressively pursued by a White House committed to policies of “America First”. The America First element of the far right focuses on nativism, anti-immigration, and a foreign policy built around strong military build-up and deterrence, and confrontation with China. A darker view links it to voter suppression, and loyalty tests to the former President that question the veracity of the 2020 Presidential election. Harvard University political scientist, Steven Levitsky (the co-author of How Democracies Die), point out how these elements converge to form a modern day authoritarian regime, seeking to concentrate power among a selected few while limiting the reach of opposition groups.
Question of The Day!
Robert! I’ve been wondering about this for some time. I know SO many people who got vaccinated! Do you think Cardio Miracle can help them fight the damage from the spike proteins? Since the spike proteins mess up the vascular system by making the blood vessels rough, not smooth, and slowing down the flow of blood…and Cardio Miracle is supposed to keep the blood flowing freely…can this be any help to those vaccinated with the covid jab?
Answer from John Hewlett: The research is clear that nitric oxide helps heal damage to the endothelial. One of the best things a V@x person can do is supplement sustained nitric oxide.
Informed consent disclosure to vaccine trial subjects of risk of COVID-19 vaccines worsening clinical disease Patient comprehension is a critical part of meeting medical ethics standards of informed consent in study designs. The aim of the study was to determine if sufficient literature exists to require clinicians to disclose the specific risk that COVID-19 vaccines could worsen disease upon exposure to challenge or circulating virus. Published literature was reviewed to identify preclinical and clinical evidence that COVID-19 vaccines could worsen disease upon exposure to challenge or circulating virus. Clinical trial protocols for COVID-19 vaccines were reviewed to determine if risks were properly disclosed. COVID-19 vaccines designed to elicit neutralising antibodies may sensitise vaccine recipients to more severe disease than if they were not vaccinated. Vaccines for SARS, MERS and RSV have never been approved, and the data generated in the development and testing of these vaccines suggest a serious mechanistic concern: that vaccines designed empirically using the traditional approach (consisting of the unmodified or minimally modified coronavirus viral spike to elicit neutralising antibodies), be they composed of protein, viral vector, DNA or RNA and irrespective of delivery method, may worsen COVID-19 disease via antibody-dependent enhancement (ADE). This risk is sufficiently obscured in clinical trial protocols and consent forms for ongoing COVID-19 vaccine trials that adequate patient comprehension of this risk is unlikely to occur, obviating truly informed consent by subjects in these trials.
Offspring drummer says he’s been booted from band for not getting vaccinated Pete Parada, the drummer for the Offspring, has found out the hard way that some businesses — and even bands — are drawing a hard line on requiring vaccinations to come back to work. He posted on his social media Tuesday that he’s been ousted from the group because he won’t agree to get the Covid vaccine. Beyond being replaced on an upcoming tour, Parada says he’s been told not to show up at the studio, either, even though he claims to have a legitimate medical reason for not getting the vaccine. It’s not entirely clear from Parada’s posts whether he has been fired from the group permanently or just put on hiatus, but comments about working on non-band projects and “find(ing) a new way forward” suggest he doesn’t foresee coming back into the fold. “Since I am unable to comply with what is increasingly becoming an industry mandate, it has recently been decided that I am unsafe to be around, in the studio, and on tour,” Parada wrote in a multi-part Instagram post. “I mention this because you won’t be seeing me at these upcoming shows. I also want to share my story so that anyone else experiencing the agony and isolation of getting left behind right now knows they’re not entirely alone.”
Hour 2 – Outside The Box With Ty Bollinger!
It’s time to go Outside The Box again with Ty Bollinger! What will we be talking about today?
Unvaccinated Americans not changing their behavior, report finds Unvaccinated Americans believe the vaccines are more dangerous than Covid-19, while vaccinated Americans believe the delta variant is worrisome enough that they continue to mask in public and avoid large gatherings. And even though almost 165 million people in the U.S. are fully vaccinated and the delta variant is raging across the country, the percentage of U.S. adults who say they oppose the Covid vaccines has remained unchanged since December, according to a report from the Kaiser Family Foundation. The survey’s findings, published Wednesday, show some of the striking differences between the two groups and the challenges facing public health officials. The Kaiser Family Foundation surveyed 1,517 adults in mid-July about their thoughts and experiences surrounding the vaccines. At the time, Covid-19 case numbers were rising because of the delta variant of the coronavirus, but the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention had not yet recommended indoor mask use in areas with high transmission rates. Still, 62 percent of vaccinated adults said news of the variant had prompted them to continue masking in public places, and 61 percent said they avoided large gatherings because of the variant. By contrast, 37 percent of unvaccinated adults said the variant had prompted them to wear masks, and 40 percent said they steered clear of crowds.
NC will pay you $100 to get the COVID-19 vaccine, $25 if you drive someone North Carolina will give you $100 to get your first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. The state health department announced the new $100 Summer Card incentive on Tuesday. From August 4-31, North Carolina will give $100 pre-paid Mastercards to anyone 18 and older who gets their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at a participating site – while supplies last. If you drive someone to their first vaccine appointment, the state will give you a $25 card. You can even do this multiple times. “Drive as many times, to as many appointments as you’d like. Drivers will receive one Summer Card* per first-dose visit,” the NCDHHS’s website reads. “Vaccination is how we end this pandemic and put our masks away,” said Gov. Roy Cooper. “The Delta variant is highly contagious, and the vast majority of severe cases are among those who are not vaccinated. We are using every tool in the toolbox to get more people to get their shots — don’t wait until it’s too late.” State health officials piloted the $25 cards at some vaccine sites this summer. They said the initiative was successful in getting more people vaccinated. More than 61% of North Carolina adults (ages 18 and older) have received at least one dose of the vaccine. However, those who are unvaccinated run a higher risk of severe illness, hospitalization and death from COVID-19 and the Delta variant. Forsyth County’s Health Department said they would start offering $100 to people getting their first dose and $25 to non-commercial drivers 18 or older. The health department will start the incentive program on August 4.
Why I Am Deleting All Content After 48 Hours Today, I have the most important announcement in the quarter of a century history of this newsletter. My goal and passion has always been about supporting you and helping you take control of your health. I am beyond thrilled that there are tens of millions of people who have benefited from what I have shared over the years. I am filled with joy and gratitude every time I travel and lecture as invariably many people tell me how I’ve changed their lives by providing vital information they couldn’t find anywhere else and even better that was completely free. These were the times when many of the views I presented were criticized, but that’s to be expected. That was one of the great freedoms we enjoyed. We could have different views and we could speak openly about these views without fear of retribution. But we are now in a different time. A much darker time. The silence of free speech is now deafening. Not only is blatant censorship tolerated, it is being encouraged by the very people who were to be entrusted with protecting our freedom of speech. We are not living from the lessons we’ve learned before. Never in my life, would I believe the sitting President of the United States call out 12 Americans in a McCarthyism like attack in the United States. As you are aware, I was placed at the top of this list.
Question of The Day!
What’s the first step someone should take when finding a lump on their breast if you’re not interested in going the conventional route? My wife recently discovered a pea-sized lump and we don’t think it’s serious, but we don’t know for sure. She doesn’t want the dangerous mammogram, so what would you recommend we look into doing?
Keep up the great work, you Disinformation Hero!
Pesticides and Other Common Chemicals Could Raise Breast Cancer Risk Nearly 300 chemicals found in everything from pesticides to food additives, cosmetics and even water could be increasing the risk of breast cancer in American women, a new study shows. After combing through US Environmental Protection Agency testing data on more than 2,000 chemicals, scientists identified 296 that stimulated laboratory cells to produce estrogen or progesterone — hormones known to fuel breast tumors, they report in Environmental Health Perspectives. “The connection between estrogen and progesterone and breast cancer is well established. So we should be extremely cautious about chemicals in products that increase levels of these hormones in the body,” said co-author Ruthann A. Rudel, research director at Silent Spring Institute in Newton, Massachusetts. The chemicals — which could be virtually anywhere in homes, furniture, food, water, shampoos, hair dyes and pesticides — were more likely to be carcinogenic or developmental or reproductive toxicants than not, Rudel told Reuters Health in a phone interview. “I think industry can and should do more, and I really hope they’ll scrutinize this list,” she said. “There’s an opportunity to reformulate based on this list right now.”
Do cancer survivors experience accelerated aging? New research published in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society indicates that cancer survivors, especially older individuals, are more likely to experience accelerated functional decline as they age, compared with those without a history of cancer. Between 2006 to 2019, 1728 men and women (aged 22 to 100 years) were evaluated, with 359 of these adults reporting a history of cancer. Among all participants, a history of cancer was associated with a 1.42 greater odds of weak grip strength. Among participants older than 65 years of age, those with a history of cancer had a 1.61 greater odds of slow gait speed than those with no cancer history, and they had lower physical performance scores. Also, older individuals with a history of cancer experienced steeper declines in grip strength and gait speed compared with older adults with no history of cancer. “Findings from our study add to the evidence that cancer and its treatment may have adverse effects on aging-related processes, putting cancer survivors at risk for accelerated functional decline,” said senior author Lisa Gallicchio, Ph.D., of the National Cancer Institute. “Understanding which cancer survivors are at highest risk, and when the accelerated decline in physical functioning is most likely to begin, is important in developing interventions to prevent, mitigate, or reverse the adverse aging-related effects of cancer and its treatment.”
Are Herbal Remedies MORE Effective Than Drugs for Lyme Disease? Lyme disease is one of the fastest-growing diseases in the nation, with an estimated 500,000 new cases each year. Yet Lyme research is severely underfunded, receiving less than 5% of the funding that less common diseases like West Nile virus or malaria receive. And while the mortality rate for Lyme is relatively low, symptoms can range from a simple rash to severe neurological issues and chronic pain. Many patients can develop meningitis (inflammation of the brain), Bell’s palsy (paralysis in one side of the face), permanent muscle weakness. The standard pharmacological treatment for Lyme disease is antibiotics. These can include a 2- or 3-week course of oral antibiotics or (in more severe cases), intravenous antibiotics. Unfortunately, IV antibiotics are usually accompanied by a long list of side effects. And with antibiotic resistance a major threat to global health, finding natural ways to combat disease should always be the preference. In fact, when antibiotics fail to completely eradicate Lyme disease, bacterial cells that have developed antibiotic resistance can continue to proliferate. These are known as persister cells. As researchers have continued to search for alternative ways to treat Lyme disease, they’ve discovered that herbal remedies may be MORE effective than antibiotics for treating Lyme. We’re going to take a look at these natural, plant-based solutions in a moment. First, let’s make sure we understand what Lyme disease really is.
7+ Reasons to Drink Hibiscus Tea Hibiscus flowers have been admired for thousands of years and are practically synonymous with warm, beautiful climates from Africa to Hawaii, where it is the official state flower. Hibiscus is a genus of plants in the Malvaceae family and comprises hundreds of different species. While all of these flowers are beautiful, we’re going to talk about Hibiscus sabdariffa, also known as roselle. Roselle is much more than just a beautiful flower – it’s also a powerful plant for healing and wellness! Hibiscus tea (made by steeping roselle leaves in hot water) has been used for centuries as a tasty and nutritious beverage and natural medicine. Below are some of the top health benefits of hibiscus tea. Be sure to read to the end for some additional ways to incorporate hibiscus into your diet! Probably the most well-known benefit of hibiscus tea is its ability to lower blood pressure. A 2010 study published in the Journal of Nutrition found that consuming hibiscus tea lowered blood pressure in people at risk of high blood pressure and those with mildly high blood pressure. Study participants consumed three 8-ounce servings of hibiscus tea or a placebo beverage daily for 6 weeks. Those who drank the hibiscus tea saw a significant reduction in their systolic blood pressure, compared to those who consumed the placebo drink. A 2019 study found that consumption of hibiscus tea could effectively lower blood pressure in patients with stage 1 hypertension. Patients who drank two cups of the tea each morning for a month saw significant reduction in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure.
