Friday on The Robert Scott Bell Show:
Parents Of Unvaccinated Children Sue Rockland County Over Measles State Of Emergency Parents of unvaccinated children in Rockland County are now suing the local government to repeal an emergency order prohibiting their children from visiting indoor public spaces. Last week, County Executive Ed Day declared a state of emergency that banned unvaccinated minors from shopping malls, restaurants, and other gathering places unless they had medical reasons for forgoing the vaccine. He said it was an effort to stop the spread of measles, which has so far infected 161 county residents. In two cases filed Wednesday in State Supreme Court in the Rockland County hamlet of New City, attorneys for the unnamed parents alleged the county executive overstepped his powers in an “arbitrary and capricious” manner. The attorneys cited a New York state statute, Executive Law 24, which permits local governments to impose restrictions on movement or put curfews in place in the event of a “disaster, rioting, catastrophe or similar public emergency.”
Outgoing FDA chief Gottlieb taking drug price fight to think tank As FDA commissioner, Scott Gottlieb battled to lower the cost of prescription drugs and streamline approval of biosimilars. Now, Gottlieb is taking that fight to the private sector. In an interview with The Washington Post, Gottlieb, who will leave the Trump administration Friday, said he plans to take a fellowship with conservative think tank American Enterprise Institute (AEI) to continue pushing for lower prices and faster approval of biologics. Gottlieb said his primary focus at AEI will be finding affordable solutions for innovative treatments, including gene therapies. “The question is, how do we spread out those costs?” he told the newspaper. “That’s a whole different paradigm.” Prior to his confirmation as FDA chief in May 2017, Gottlieb served as resident fellow at AEI and held various consulting and board positions for pharma and medical device companies. After joining the FDA, Gottlieb quickly went to bat on lowering the cost of drugs and boosting competition.

3 Reasons Your Allergies Are Getting Worse – and What to Do About It Itchy, red, watery eyes. Non-stop sneezing. Blotchy, irritated skin. A nose like a faucet. These are symptoms seasonal allergy sufferers know all too well. But if it seems like they’re even more intense this year than they were in years past, that’s because they probably are. Allergies are on the rise – in terms of both prevalence and severity. Experts estimate that as many as 30 percent of adults and 40 percent of children suffer from allergies. What’s more, those who do have allergies consistently declare each season the “worst allergy season yet.” Why the changes? Turns out there’s not just one culprit but several. Here are three of the top reasons your allergies may be getting worse over time.
Allergy Relief Breakthrough: Seasonal = Regional Allergic responses are very individualized. Anyone who suffers from “hay fever” knows that the triggers are seasonal airborne pollens. Allergy symptoms are uncomfortable (to say the least!), as sufferers well know. Symptoms include red, itchy, watery eyes, sneezing, itching, and a runny nose. In short, part of the body’s immune system is overactive and on red alert: “DING-DING-DING-DING!!!!” Its alarm system is going crazy! Turning to pharmaceutical drugs for symptom relief carries risks of negative side effects, such as: headache, hives, drowsiness, racing heart, nervousness, dizziness, insomnia, and dry mouth. In addition, some put extra stress on the heart, liver and kidneys, and mixing these drugs with alcohol can cause very serious results. Those who choose natural solutions for allergy symptom control, such as consuming local honey and bee pollen, or taking herbal supplements, report varying degrees of success. Or, natural shoppers may choose to boost their immune systems with vitamin supplements, which may help, depending on the vitamin’s purity and specific actions. (Some immune-boosting supplements, however, can make allergies worse by stimulating the already overactive part of the immune system.)
Hour 2 – Special Guest – Dr. Sherri Tenpenny!
FLASHBACK – Mystery solved: Northern Ontario toddler didn’t have measles, health unit says It’s so CSI. Laboratory testing has solved the mystery of how a little girl from Elliot Lake who had not travelled outside Northern Ontario contracted measles. The answer: She didn’t. Work done at Canada’s National Microbiology Laboratory in Winnipeg showed that the measles virus that had been picked up by a swab inserted into the little girl’s nostril was actually the strain contained in the measles vaccine. Measles vaccine contains a live but weakened virus that induces an immune response but does not trigger the disease. That means something else was almost certainly the cause of the little girl’s illness, says Dr. Penny Sutcliffe, acting medical officer of health for the Algoma region, which includes Elliot Lake. “We weren’t expecting this result. But in the end I think it’s good news for the community and for Northern Ontario at this point in time,” says Sutcliffe.
