Friday on The Robert Scott Bell Show:
Super Surprise Me?
“Super Size Me” liver damage claim crumbles as Morgan Spurlock revealed to have abused alcohol fordecades It’s not often that you’ll find a Natural News writer defending McDonald’s. After all, we’ve been calling them out for their toxic junk food for years now. Nonetheless, right is right and wrong is wrong, and we always endeavor to highlight the truth, even when that truth happens to vindicate McDonald’s – albeit in only one small way. If you regularly watch documentaries you will almost certainly have seen Morgan Spurlock’s 2004 doccie, Super Size Me. Spurlock became an overnight success with his film which showed the (apparently) devastating results of eating nothing but McDonald’s for 30 days, three times a day. Having consumed around 5,000 calories a day for the duration of the experiment, Spurlock gained 24 pounds and his body mass index increased by a staggering 13 percent. He also claims to have experienced mood swings, sexual dysfunction and – this is where it gets tricky – damage to his liver. He was also noticeably shaky (trembling) after the 30 days.
Protect Your Liver!
Six ways you suck the life out of your liver Let’s face it, without a properly functioning liver your health is going to suffer. Yet, we seem content with doing a wide variety of things — that are in our control — which have a negative impact on this humble and hard working organ. Perhaps we are unaware of the daily toxic assaults and habits that continually compromise its function, and don’t recognize the symptoms, which allows this treachery to go on unabated until we feel so awful that an herbal detox kit is in order. At that point, you have really done a number on your liver and you may want to adjust your lifestyle so you don’t keep assaulting the key to your quality of life and longevity. You can start by understanding what the signs of liver damage look like, then culling the habits that cumulatively act like weapons of mass destruction on it. Since your liver doesn’t cry out in pain, it can be difficult to determine whether it is actually suffering. However, there are less than obvious signs that it is laboring, such as small red spots on the skin, vision issues, chemical sensitivities, and loss of appetite. If these symptoms ring true for you, the damage to your liver is reaching problematic levels. To see the full list of symptoms that your liver is hurting, read Signs Of Liver Damage and How To Heal It Naturally.

The secret to longevity is in the microbiome and the gut You are what you eat. Or so the saying goes. Science now tells us that we are what the bacteria living in our intestinal tract eat and this could have an influence on how well we age. Building on this, McGill University scientists fed fruit flies with a combination of probiotics and an herbal supplement called Triphala that was able to prolong the flies’ longevity by 60 % and protect them against chronic diseases associated with aging. The study, published in Scientific Reports, adds to a growing body of evidence of the influence that gut bacteria can have on health. The researchers incorporated a symbiotic—made of probiotics with a polyphenol-rich supplement—into the diet of fruit flies. The flies fed with the synbiotic lived up to 66 days old—26 days more than the ones without the supplement. They also showed reduced traits of aging, such as mounting insulin resistance, inflammation and oxidative stress. “Probiotics dramatically change the architecture of the gut microbiota, not only in its composition but also in respect to how the foods that we eat are metabolized,” says Satya Prakash, professor of biomedical engineering in McGill’s Faculty of Medicine and senior author of the study. “This allows a single probiotic formulation to simultaneously act on several biochemical signaling pathways to elicit broad beneficial physiological effects, and explains why the single formulation we present in this paper has such a dramatic effect on so many different markers”.
An Inflammation Nation by Sunil Pai Changing your health and eating habits to restore and maintain your health can be challenging. But compared to surgery or extensive drug regimens with debilitating side effects, the effort is decidedly worth it.
Here to make things a bit easier, Dr. Sunil Pai presents a ten-step guide to help you prevent and treat disease through diet and lifestyle changes, as well as through the use of natural anti-inflammatories. With extensive information on the production of food, pharmaceuticals, and dietary supplements, this remarkable resource pulls back the veil on what’s “really” in the foods and products you consume daily—and how they’re affecting your health. All too often, conventional health care simply manages diseases rather than actually resolving them. By understanding that inflammation is the underlying trigger mechanism to all ailments, you can learn to prevent, reverse, and treat most chronic illnesses—including cancer—by applying integrative medicine’s natural, evidence-based solutions. Informative, educational, and enlightening, this book will help you understand the truth and motivate you to start taking back your health!

Hey! Check Out My Big Brain!
Your Body Has A ‘Second Brain’ In Your Butt, Scientists Say You’ve probably had a “gut feeling” during your life, but did you know your gut is actually “thinking” too? According to scientists in Australia, the human body has a “second brain” in its rear end and it may be smarter than we think. A study published in the journal JNeurosci says that the gastrointestinal tract contains millions of neurons, which independently control muscle movement in the colon. “These findings identify a previously unknown pattern of neuronal activity in the peripheral nervous system,” Prof. Nick Spencer from Flinders University in Australia said in a press release. “Until this new study no one had any idea exactly how large populations of neurons in the ENS lead to contraction of the intestine,” he added, via Science Alert. Researchers discovered that the neurons in the digestive system fire in synchronized blasts, which propel waste out of the body. This is the same way neurons in the brain fire as they send signals throughout the body.
