Economist-YouGov Poll: 3 in 10 Americans Did Not Get COVID-19 Vaccine Despite the government mandates and restrictions, a new Economist-YouGov poll found that 3 in 10 Americans did not take any COVID-19 vaccine. While a 71% majority said they have received “at least one shot of any manufacturer’s COVID-19 vaccine,” 29% said they have not received any. Broken down by political affiliation, 39% of independents said they did not get a COVID vaccine, followed by 35% of Republicans and 14% of Democrats. People who voted for Trump reported being far less likely to have received a vaccine for the coronavirus, with 34% saying they did not get one. But a vast majority — 91% — of Biden voters said they got at least one COVID vaccine. During a CNN town hall in July 2021, President Joe Biden claimed that COVID-19 vaccines stop transmission of the virus and that vaccinated people would not get the virus. “But again, one last thing,” Biden said at the time. “I — we don’t talk enough to you about this, I don’t think. One last thing that’s really important is we’re not in a position where we think that any virus — including the delta virus, which is much more transmissible and more deadly in terms of unvaccinated people — the — the various shots that people are getting now cover that. They’re — you’re OK. You’re not going to — you’re not going to get COVID if you have these vaccinations.”

Public school enrollment down by nearly 2 million Almost 2 million students stopped attending public schools between 2020 and 2021, enrollment data shows. In a recent poll from Education Next, district-operated schools lost 4 percent of their students during those two years, with those children enrolling in other types of schooling. In the spring of 2020, 81 percent of schoolchildren in the United States were enrolled in district schools, according to parental response to the poll. By November of that year, enrollment in district schools had plummeted to 72 percent, according to Education Next numbers. Last spring, district school enrollment bounced back up to 77 percent and enrollment has hovered at that rate since then, according to the publication’s most recent poll. That percentage drop means that almost 2 million students have left a traditional public school for either a charter or private school or to be homeschooled. Over the past two years, the portion of the country’s students being homeschooled bumped up from 6 to 7 percent, which represents a doubling from 2016 numbers.

Glyphosate Causes Convulsions in Earth Worms – What is it Doing to Us? The notorious weed-killer, Roundup, initially made by Monsanto and acquired by Bayer, has been found to cause seizure-like convulsions in roundworms.  When a soil-dwelling species, Caenorhabditis elegans, was exposed to highly diluted samples of Roundup – 300 times lower than the lowest concentration recommended for consumer use – researchers found the herbicide elicited prolonged paroxysms. In a third of the worm models, the toxic effects of Roundup and its main ingredient, glyphosate, could only be halted with drug intervention. Researchers say their findings are “pretty dramatic,” – and they come at a crucial moment for Bayer and the future of Roundup. “It is concerning how little we understand the impact of glyphosate on the nervous system,” says neuroscientist Akshay Naraine from Florida Atlantic University. “More evidence is mounting for how prevalent exposure to glyphosate is, so this work hopefully pushes other researchers to expand on these findings and solidify where our concerns should be.” Glyphosate is the world’s most commonly used herbicide. A recent federal report from the United States found traces of this weed-killer in more than 80 percent of urine samples given by children and adults. Yet the health effects of such widespread exposure are extremely contentious.
