Tuesday on The Robert Scott Bell Show:
Silicon Valley scrambles to stop coronavirus misinformation The coronavirus’s rapid spread worldwide is forcing Big Tech to confront the equally viral proliferation of misinformation — in the form outright falsehoods and half-truths about the outbreak. Facebook, Google and Twitter have all struggled in different ways to contain medical misinformation, in particular around vaccines, in recent years. The Silicon Valley mainstays face a potentially much bigger challenge as coronavirus spreads across the world, having already infected 2,800 people in China and killed at least 82. The Washington Post reports that Facebook and its fellow social media companies have been fighting a range of conspiracy theories, including that the U.S. government secretly created or obtained a patent for the illness. “Oregano Oil Proves Effective Against Coronavirus,” read one post that had reportedly been shared across multiple groups on Facebook by Monday. According to scientists, there is no such cure for the virus.
Warren offers infectious-disease plan amid China outbreak Democratic presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren has announced a plan to prevent, contain and treat infectious diseases as a new viral illness spreads in China. The Massachusetts senator on Tuesday unveiled a plan that includes fully funding the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s pandemic prevention and response programs. The agency has faced stiff budget cuts under President Donald Trump, including to emergency funds and global health programs that were established following West Africa’s Ebola epidemic in 2014. “Like so much else, Trump’s approach to keeping us safe from disease outbreaks is a mess,” Warren wrote in an online post announcing the plan. “But when he’s gone, we can fix it.” Warren’s proposal comes as the coronavirus has killed more than 100 people in China and the city at the center of the crisis, Wuhan, remains on lockdown. The U.S. has confirmed cases in Washington state, Illinois, Southern California and Arizona.
China epidemic—implications for America and other countries To keep up with my new articles on the so-called “epidemic,” it really helps to read my earlier pieces (archive here). I don’t recapitulate all the relevant facts every time I sit down to write. If I did, I’d be posting books instead of articles. So…as I write this one, about 40 million Chinese citizens are on lockdown and quarantine in their cities. This is truly extraordinary. One US vaccine-funding official was heard to say China was a “silver lining” in the coronavirus epidemic—because that government is able to exert so much control over its people and, therefore, help contain the epidemic. You could almost hear him thinking, “I wish we could do that in America.” America, UK, Canada, France, Germany, etc. You can bet your bottom dollar public health officials all over the world are gathering data on how well “the Chinese experiment” is going. They want to learn lessons. They want to know more about containment, mass quarantines, and lockdowns.
Something far deadlier than the Wuhan virus lurks near you There’s a deadly virus spreading from state to state. It preys on the most vulnerable, striking the sick and the old without mercy. In just the past few months, it has claimed the lives of at least 39 children. The virus is influenza, and it poses a far greater threat to Americans than the coronavirus from China that has made headlines around the world. “When we think about the relative danger of this new coronavirus and influenza, there’s just no comparison,” said Dr. William Schaffner, a professor of preventive medicine and health policy at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. “Coronavirus will be a blip on the horizon in comparison. The risk is trivial.” To be sure, the coronavirus outbreak, which originated last month in the Chinese city of Wuhan, should be taken seriously. The virus can cause pneumonia and is blamed for more than 800 illnesses and 26 deaths. British researchers estimate the virus has infected 4,000 people.

The Most Widely Used Cooking Oil In The US Found To Cause Genetic Changes In The Brain The most widely used oil in the United States can be found in processed/packaged foods, in the deep fryers of countless fast food restaurants and even mixed into feed for livestock. Soybean oil is everywhere and, unfortunately, it is not healthy for us humans. Likely the livestock as well should not be consuming it at all. New research from the University of California, Riverside has shown that not only does the consumption of soybean oil lead to obesity and diabetes, but it could also contribute to neurological conditions including autism, Alzheimer’s disease, anxiety and depression. This study, published this month in the journal Endocrinology, compared the outcome of mice that were fed 3 different high-fat diets including soybean oil, soybean oil that has been modified to be low in linoleic acid, and coconut oil. In 2015 the same research team from UCR found that soybean oil induces obesity, diabetes, insulin resistance and fatty liver in mice. Then in 2017 another study from the same team discovered that if soybean oil is engineered to be low in linoleic acid it will cause less obesity and insulin resistance.
Question of The Day!
Hello Super Don and Robert:
I am desperate. My daughter is donating a kidney to someone she knows and this Wednesday, January 29 they are doing an MRI with contrast dye. I believe this last step is to check my daughters’ health to be a donor (now isn’t that IRONIC). My daughter hasn’t had the strongest immune system (allergies, asthma and topical exzema as a kid) and I am EXTREMELY petrified about her getting this dye. Robert, I was wondering if between your Homeopathic wizardry and Not a Doc’s recommendations (I am sure she needs selenium) I was wondering if you could help me to help her detox both before and after by making some recommendations. I would even hire you if we can do that remotely as we are in Canada. Thank you so much I love you guys xo. Time is of the essence I hope you get this and have time to get back to me.
These doctors want to write ‘farmacy’ prescriptions Doctors are used to writing prescriptions for medicine. But three Boston-area cardiologists are working on a federal program that would focus on writing prescriptions for food. Varanda, which stands for Veterans Administration Repurposing Agriculture for Nutrition and Diet Awareness, would create a network of sustainable food gardens at veterans hospitals to provide fresh food—for free—to vets and their families. The work is inspired by the rooftop farm at Boston Medical Center. The farm, in place since 2017, harvests more than two tons of fresh vegetables yearly and distributes them to their preventive food pantry and hospital kitchen. “The rooftop farm is this amazing farm operation in a hospital,” said Dr. Stephanie Moore, an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School and VA staff cardiologist. “The doctors could write prescriptions for fresh vegetables and healthy foods that the patients could pick up at the on-site pantry. They would go onto their computers and, much like I would write a prescription for a medication, they would write a prescription for food. And it’s free.”
