Vaccines In The News

HPV Vaccine Scandal Affects Cochrane Biased Review as Critics Speak Out in BMJ In May 2018, Cochrane, the research organization that bills itself as the “international gold standard for high quality, trusted information,” released a flattering review of human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines. The Cochrane review methodology involves pulling together data from clinical trials and reviewing the assembled evidence in what is supposed to be a standardized, systematic and neutral manner. In June, we reported that Cochrane’s sources of funding—agencies and foundations that are unwilling to brook any questions about vaccine safety—raise reasonable doubts about Cochrane’s conflicts of interest and ability to remain independent from its funders’ agendas. Now, researchers affiliated with one of Cochrane’s regional member centers (the Nordic Cochrane Centre) and with the Oxford-based Centre for Evidence Based Medicine (OCEBM) have come out with an exhaustive critique of Cochrane’s HPV review, published in BMJ Evidence-Based Medicine. Not mincing their words, the authors state: We believe that the Cochrane [HPV vaccine] review does not meet the standards for Cochrane reviews or the needs of the citizens or healthcare providers that consult Cochrane reviews to make ‘Informed decisions,’ which…is part of Cochrane’s motto. [emphasis added].

Acclaimed film-maker denied entry to Australia It seems that the award-winning journalist and documentary filmmaker Joan Shenton is being refused permission to enter Australia this week, following the news that she was to front a screenings tour of her award-winning film Sacrificial Virgins in early August. Sacrificial Virgins probes the controversies surrounding Gardasil HPV vaccination programs – associated with many cases of severe neurological damage and also deaths in girls and young women – and presents new scientific evidence that questions these programs’ ability even to deliver the cervical cancer prevention that is the chief rationale for their existence. A very high proportion of 12-13 year old girls and boys in Australia are routinely administered Gardasil free of charge in school as part of the National Immunisation Program (NIP). Joan Shenton was to have appeared in person for a panel discussion at each of the seven screenings, joined by international scientists and people directly affected by neurological damage following HPV vaccination. However, after a statement in several newspapers (2) that “Immigration Minister Peter Dutton would not rule out denying entry to British filmmaker Joan Shenton when she flies in for the screenings” Ms Shenton was told by a Department of Home Affairs representative on Friday that her visa application had been taken out of the automated procedure and was being “manually assessed”.  At the time of writing, visa confirmation has not been provided and the deadline has passed for Ms Shenton’s flight from the UK.

Another Prescription Drug Death On The Books…

Radio host Art Bell died of accidental drug overdose Longtime Pahrump radio personality Art Bell died of an accidental overdose from a cocktail of prescription drugs, the Clark County coroner’s office said Wednesday. Bell died April 13 in a bedroom of his Pahrump home at age 72. The coroner’s office determined he had four prescription medications in his system: the opioids oxycodone and hydrocodone, diazepam (often marketed as Valium) and the muscle relaxant carisoprodol. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and hypertension also contributed to his death, the coroner’s office said. The drugs that killed Bell were lawfully prescribed to him, the Nye County Sheriff’s Office said in a video posted to Facebook.

Is It Liberty or Discrimination?

DOJ Launches ‘Religious Liberty’ Task Force The Department of Justice is establishing a Religious Liberty Task Force that it says will “promote and protect religious liberty,” but critics say could end up hurting women’s reproductive rights. “In recent years, the cultural climate in this country — and in the West more generally — has become less hospitable to people of faith,” Attorney General Jeff Sessions said in a speech Monday in which he announced the task force’s formation. “Many Americans have felt that their freedom to practice their faith has been under attack.” “And it’s easy to see why,” he continued, speaking to his department’s Religious Liberty Summit. “We’ve seen nuns ordered to buy contraceptives.” Sessions was referring to the 2016 Supreme Court case Little Sisters of the Poor Home for the Aged v. Burwell, in which an order of Catholic nuns wanted to provide health insurance for its employees that did not include contraceptive coverage — an exclusion that went against the Affordable Care Act (ACA). That case was combined with several other cases in a decision known as Zubik v. Burwell.

Sessions targets those branding religious organizations as ‘hate groups’ The Southern Poverty Law Center, a far-left team of activists who label Christian organizations as “hate groups” because of their biblical beliefs on homosexuality and marriage, has gained influence in recent months. Tech giants such as Amazon have adopted the “hate list,” resulting in discrimination against widely respected groups such as the Alliance Defending Freedom, which has won cases at the U.S. Supreme Court. But SPLC, described by pundit John Stossel as a “money-grabbing slander machine,” now faces new opposition from the federal government: a task force assembled by Attorney General Jeff Sessions. He announced this week the formation of the Religious Liberty Task Force to promote religious liberty.

Another Confusing Junk Science Study…

Abstinence and heavy drinking could increase dementia risk, study says Genetics, head injury and poor nutrition have all been linked to dementia. Scientists are now adding both heavy drinking and abstaining from alcohol to the list, according to a new report. Researchers from the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research based in France and the United Kingdom recently conducted a study, published in the British Medical Journal, to determine the relationship between midlife alcohol consumption and risk of dementia into early old age. To do so, they observed more than 9,000 people, aged 35 to 55, taking part in the Whitehall II Study, which is examining the impact of social, behavioral, and biological factors on long-term health. The analysts assessed their alcohol consumption and dependence over the course of several years. They then collected hospital records to review the number of participants hospitalized for alcohol-related chronic diseases and cases of dementia.

Special Guest – Diane Miller!

If health freedom has a middle name, it’s Diane Miller from the National Health Freedom Coalition. She spearheaded the charge to establish the first safe harbor law for natural healthcare providers in Minnesota way back in 1999, when Jess Ventura was governor. This allowed for healers from all backgrounds to help people with their health, naturally, and not be subject to unlawful attack by state medical boards, claiming that they would be practicing medicine without a license. Freedom, and particularly health freedom is under constant assault from pharmaceutically-conflicted entities within government and media. It is high time that the natural health community figured out what it wants and work to create it. This would be preferable to a constant state of defensive maneuvers in trying to preserve what little health freedom may currently exist.

How would you feel if you decided to use homeopathy, naturopathy, or bodywork for a physical condition, but found out that you could not get the treatment or information you need, from the practitioner you wanted to see? The truth is, you are not alone. Restrictive health practice laws in America, reflecting only the conventional medical approach to health care, prohibit a multitude of healing practices. Yes, your right to access a variety of healing therapies, ranging from naturopathy and homeopathy, to massage therapy, to therapeutic touch, are severely limited, and we need a strong national coalition to stand up and reclaim our right to access all of health care. That’s where NHFC comes in. National Health Freedom Coalition (NHFC) believes that individuals have the right to self-determination in making their own health care choices. However when health care options are eliminated through restrictive laws and regulations, choices are eliminated and access becomes meaningless. When this happens the people suffer and must work to protect their rights and retain their options.

Americans for Homeopathy Choice Petitions FDA to Establish a Homeopathic Advisory Committee and Regulations As readers of this blog may recall, last year, FDA issued a draft guidance describing how FDA would prioritize enforcement and regulatory actions regarding homeopathic drug products marketed in the United States. This new guidance document, once finalized, would replace the compliance policy guide, CPG 400.400, which had been in use for approximately three decades. FDA’s new draft guidance was not well-received by the homeopathic community. Comments submitted show a concern about the loss of the CPG 400.400 which provided clear guidance about the manufacturing and marketing of homeopathic drug products. In contrast, the new guidance was considered vague and created uncertainty. Concerned that the new guidance would reduce the access to homeopathic products, Americans for Homeopathy Choice submitted a Petition to FDA requesting that FDA convert the existing CPG to regulations and establish an advisory committee.

I don’t know how, but homeopathy really does work I was a dedicated scientist about to begin a PhD in neuroscience when, out of the blue, homeopathy bit me on the proverbial bottom. Science had been my passion since I began studying biology with Mr Hopkinson at the age of 11, and by the age of 21, when I attended the dinner party that altered the course of my life, I had still barely heard of it. The idea that I would one day become a homeopath would have seemed ludicrous. That turning point is etched in my mind. A woman I’d known my entire life told me that a homeopath had successfully treated her when many months of conventional treatment had failed. As a sceptic, I scoffed, but was nonetheless a little intrigued. She confessed that despite thinking homeopathy was a load of rubbish, she’d finally agreed to an appointment, to stop her daughter nagging. But she was genuinely shocked to find that, after one little pill, within days she felt significantly better. A second tablet, she said, “saw it off completely”.

And Now For Something Completely Different…

Science HOAX? The Apocalypse could come in the form of malicious AI from aliens who shut down Earth’s global power grid Science fiction is making headlines as actual news these days, suggesting that aliens from outer space are threatening to take down society using artificial intelligence, or AI. Researchers from Hawaii and Germany reportedly claim that aliens are already sending messages to humans that should be immediately deleted, lest they infect computer systems with malicious software that would result in an AI takeover. A new paper entitled Interstellar Communication. IX. Message Decontamination is Impossible claims that extra terrestrials may already be in the process of trying to infect human computer systems with AI viruses for the purpose of bringing about widespread apocalypse to earth. And unless we stop accepting these messages, this threat could very soon become a reality. “Such a message cannot be decontaminated with certainty, and technical risks remain which can pose an existential threat,” the study’s researchers write. “Complex messages would need to be destroyed in the risk averse case.”
