Thursday on The Robert Scott Bell Show:
Cheryl Chumley and Norm Singleton return to dissect the latest news in the political realm! What’s happening in congress? What’s the latest news on the Trump administration? Here’s what we will be discussing today:
Donald Trump’s first U.N. speech the bold stuff of legend President Donald Trump, in his first speech before the United Nations, sent a message that basically said you’re either with us — or you will be. Awesome. He was predicted to give a bold message. And no bones about it: Trump delivered. Look at his widely reported North Korea remark: “Rocket Man is on a suicide mission for himself,” he said, in reference to despot Kim Jong-un. The left may gasp. But Trump’s likely thinking: Who cares? And so are most in America.
Donald Trump faulted for fueling global love for Iran The reverberations of President Donald Trump’s first address to the General Assembly are still sounding, and the latest from the naysaying side is this ridiculous suggestion — that his bold remarks on the Iran treaty have actually jumpstarted sympathy for the regime. Yeah, right. To borrow from the Rolling Stones: Anyone who has sympathy for the devil is a devil him- or herself. This, from The New York Times — apparently scratching and clawing to dreg all the dirt possible from Trump’s speech: “Critics Fear Trump’s Attacks on Iran Could Backfire.”
College kids: 20 percent OK with First Amendment violence The Brookings Institute conducted a survey of 1,500 college students around the nation, and found fully 44 percent think hate speech — whatever that is — isn’t a First Amendment right. About half that think violence is an OK form of protest. The indoctrination of the next generation is nearly complete. The left’s years and years of hard work at shutting down dissenting political views is paying off big time. What is hate speech, anyway?
This Week in Congress – Latest attempt to replace Obamacare The House of Representatives is not in session this week. Last week, they passed the omnibus spending bill. Sadly, only 14 Republicans voted against it. Here is the roll-call vote. The Senate is in session. Yesterday they passed the NDAA by a vote of 89-8. You can see the roll-call vote here. The Senate will be doing nominations for Solicitor General and the National Labor Relations Board this week.
Campaign for Liberty Oppose “Carried Interest” Tax Campaign for Liberty cosigned a letter to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Speaker Paul Ryan opposing a “carried interest tax,” which is a tax on short-term capital gains. Like all such taxes, carried interest taxes games new business and jobs. Unfortunately, some in Congress, such as Representative Tim Rice (SC-5) are still pushing this tax as a mess “offsetting” the revenue loss from lowering taxes. Campaign for Liberty supports offsetting tax cuts with spending cuts.
Campaign for Liberty President Norm Singleton Speaking at CATO on Monday If you’re in DC on Monday, stop by CATO to hear Campaign for Liberty President Norm Singleton speak on a panel discussion on National Security Oversight: Congressional Case Studies and Reform Prospects. Mr. Singleton will join Daniel Johns, founder and leader of the Penn Quarter Group, Sue Udry, Executive Director of Demand Progress, Daniel Schuman, Policy Director of Demand Progress, Kurt Couchman, Vice-President of Policy of Defense Priorities and moderator Patrick Eddington of CATO to discuss Congressional oversight of intelligence agencies and prospects for reigning in the surveillance state.
Mosquitoes carrying deadly diseases could invade 75% of America, warns US government Mosquitoes capable of spreading serious and potentially deadly diseases such as Zika, dengue and yellow fever could invade about three-quarters of mainland United States, the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention have warned.
The CDC, a US federal agency, has previously warned thatclimate change could affect human health in many ways including increasing the number of “disease carriers such as mosquitoes and ticks”. In a paper published in the Journal of Medical Entomology, it revealed maps showing areas where the habitat was suitable for two particular species of mosquito, Aedes aegypti or Aedes albopictus to survive.

Watch Dr. Oz surprise the hosts of ‘Fox & Friends’ by talking about America’s pot ‘hypocrisy’ “Can I ask you one thing?” Oz said, suddenly talking very fast. “I talked about the opioid epidemic, but the real story is the hypocrisy around medical marijuana.” Now Doocy tensed up, one hand clutched in the other, a tight ball of fingers beneath a deep frown. He nodded slowly and inhaled as if to say something.
12 Different Studies Exploring the Anti-Cancer Properties of CBD Oil In 2016, the cannabis industry grew by 30 percent. But its relaxing properties are not the only reason for the interest in medical marijuana dispensary outlets across the US. Research across the globe is all pointing to CBD oil as having high potential for fighting cancer on various levels. CBD is short for cannabidiol. CBD is a compound found in the cannabis plant, but without the psychoactive element that the THC strain has. This means CBD does not give you the high that most people think of when they hear of cannabis. But what does CBD do and why is it being heralded as the new miracle cure?
9 of 10 docs unprepared to prescribe marijuana Although it’s becoming more commonplace, medical marijuana is rarely discussed in U.S. medical schools, a new study shows. “Medical education needs to catch up to marijuana legislation,” said senior author Dr. Laura Jean Bierut, a professor of psychiatry at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. “Physicians in training need to know the benefits and drawbacks associated with medical marijuana so they know when or if, and to whom, to prescribe the drug,” she explained in a school news release.
U.S. Attorney General Sessions says marijuana still illegal U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Wednesday criticized the legalization of marijuana in multiple states and warned that the federal law banning use and sale of the drug “remains in effect,” remarks that could stoke fears of a federal crackdown. “I’ve never felt that we should legalize marijuana,” Sessions said in response to a question from a reporter during a press conference in San Diego announcing record-breaking narcotics seizures by the U.S. Coast Guard in fiscal 2017. “It doesn’t strike me that the country would be better if it’s being sold at every street corner,” he said, adding that medical organizations oppose it and federal law prohibits it.
