Tuesday on The Robert Scott Bell Show:
Following the Science? Blue States Reject the CDC’s Mask Guidance Welcome back to “Forgotten Fact-Checks,” a weekly column produced by National Review’s News Desk. This week we have liberals’ unsettling attachment to masking, Fauci’s dishonesties, and more media misses. The CDC finally announced last week that, with few exceptions, anyone who is fully vaccinated can participate in indoor and outdoor activities, large or small, without wearing a mask or physical distancing: “If you are fully vaccinated, you are protected, and you can start doing the things that you stopped doing because of the pandemic,” the agency’s director said. The CDC’s announcement comes as cases in nearly every state continue to plummet and vaccination rates rise. But those trends aren’t new; they were obvious last week, when CDC director Rochelle Walensky gave an emotional TV interview in which she said she would keep her vaccinated teenagers home from summer camp because they cannot be made safe. Days after that interview, Walensky, smiling from ear to ear, gave a triumphant press conference releasing vaccinated Americans from mask-wearing. However, the good news was rejected in a slew of Democrat-led locales including New Jersey, Hawaii, and Washington, D.C., which have all kept indoor mask mandates in place for those vaccinated for the time being.
It’s Time For America’s Fixation On Herd Immunity To End, Scientists Say The end of this pandemic sometimes gets boiled down to two words: herd immunity. But now, as an academic debate swirls over when or even if America can get to a high enough percentage of people with immunity to reach that goal, some scientists say it’s time for the public to stop worrying about it. “I think we’re focusing too much of our time, our effort, on quibbling over a number,” says Lauren Ancel Meyers, a professor at the University of Texas at Austin and head of the university’s COVID-19 Modeling Consortium. Instead, Meyers and others say the public should follow one simple piece of advice: Get vaccinated. “This pandemic ends when enough people are protected from severe illness, and selfishly you want to be protected from severe illness,” says Devi Sridhar, a professor of public health at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. Vaccination “helps you and it helps your community.” The idea of herd immunity began with cows, not people. In 1916, veterinarian Adolph Eichhorn and colleagues noticed that a herd of cattle could become collectively immune to a disease if enough animals survived the initial infection.
Fauci: ‘Perfectly reasonable’ for businesses to keep mask mandates Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious diseases expert said Tuesday that it’s “perfectly reasonable and understandable” for businesses to keep mandates in place following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) recent guidance on fully vaccinated people and masks. The CDC on Thursday issued new guidance stating that fully vaccinated individuals do not have to wear a mask indoors or outdoors or to maintain social distancing. The announcement, however, has garnered confusion and rebuke from front-line workers and nurses. Speaking to ABC News’s “Good Morning America” on Tuesday, Fauci acknowledged that the guidance poses a challenge for businesses because there’s no way of knowing that someone is vaccinated. “The problem and the issue is that we don’t have any way of knowing who is vaccinated and who’s not vaccinated,” Fauci said. “I think that’s where the confusion arises because there are some establishments who are saying, ‘Well, I’m going to have people coming into my establishment or my store, or what have you, some are going to be vaccinated, some are not, I’m not going to know the difference.'”
Rand Paul wins: Dr. Fauci admits he wore a mask for show to avoid sending ‘mixed signals’ President Joe Biden’s chief medical adviser, Dr. Anthony Fauci, on Tuesday confirmed what Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) told him two months ago about mask-wearing being unnecessary for Americans vaccinated against COVID-19. Fauci appeared on ABC’s”Good Morning America” to discuss the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s new mask recommendations, reiterating that the CDC says it’s safe for vaccinated people to stop wearing face coverings. He explained that the science has “evolved” over the last few weeks to show that vaccinated people are protected from infection and that the risk of them spreading the virus to someone else is “extremely low, very very low.” When asked by host George Stephanopoulos how his personal mask-wearing habits have changed, Fauci responded that he feels more comfortable being seen in public indoors without a mask. Though he was vaccinated in December, Fauci said he had continued to wear a mask to avoid sending “mixed signals” to the American people by not wearing a mask. “I’m obviously careful because I’m a physician and a health care provider. I am now much more comfortable in people seeing me indoors without a mask, I mean, before the CDC made the recommendation change I didn’t want to look like I was giving mixed signals,” Fauci told ABC News. “But being a fully vaccinated person the chances of my getting infected in an indoor setting is extremely low. And that’s the reason why in indoor settings now I feel comfortable about not wearing a mask because I’m fully vaccinated.”
Question of The Day!
My 68 year old father took a hard fall yesterday after feeling what he remembers to be sudden dizziness. He went unconscious and hit his head (or hit his head and went unconscious, we’re uncertain). A resulting 4 inch gash at his head needed to be stapled. A CT scan revealed no brain bleeding, thank God, although we are worried about the trauma his brain must have experienced. We currently have him taking high dose fish oil supplements as well as sovereign silver internally.
After further examination and testing at the hospital, he was diagnosed with Atrial Flutter. We do not know if his fall was related to this condition. His assigned doctor wants to prescribe blood thinners (there’s a 3% risk of stroke with atrial flutter, we’re told) and perform electrical cardioversion. Of course we are going to explore alternative options as he’s overall quite healthy, eating primarily organic, etc etc. Pharmaceutical blood thinners make us nervous as well as the cardioversion procedure. They did have him take a diuretic temporarily to address some fluid retention noticed in the lungs.
What would you do/take in his circumstance to address both his head and his heart?? We are going to search for an alternative practitioner asap, but in the meantime, any thoughts about what you would do/not do in this instance would really be helpful. We are focused on getting him out of the hospital SAFELY and would certainly like to avoid any unnecessary procedures.
Eric Clapton ‘Feared He Would Never Play Again’ After AstraZeneca Vaccine, Says ‘Propaganda’ Overstated Safety Eric Clapton said he had a “disastrous” health experience after receiving the AstraZeneca COVID vaccine, and the 76-year-old musician blamed propaganda for overstating the vaccine’s safety, Rolling Stone reported. Clapton detailed his experience with AstraZeneca in a letter to Italian architect Robin Monotti, who shared it May 12 on Twitter. In February, Clapton said he took his first dose of AstraZeneca and immediately suffered severe reactions lasting 10 days. About six weeks later he was offered and took the second dose, but with a little more knowledge of the dangers. “Needless to say the reactions were disastrous, my hands and feet were either frozen, numb or burning, and pretty much useless for two weeks. I feared I would never play again,” Clapton said. “But the propaganda said the vaccine was safe for everyone.” Clapton suffers from peripheral neuropathy and said he should never have gotten the jab. Peripheral neuropathy occurs as a result of damage to the nerves outside of the brain and spinal cord (peripheral nerves). It often causes weakness, numbness and pain, usually in the hands and feet, and can also affect other areas of the body. Clapton said he met a member of an online group who counseled him to be careful and look at what’s going on. “I felt like a veil had been lifted, that I was no longer alone, that it was okay, in fact essential, to hold on to my intuition and follow my heart,” Clapton said. “I continue to tread the path of passive rebellion and try to tow the line in order to be able to actively love my family, but it’s hard to bite my tongue with what I now know,” he added.

Alabama Becomes 36th State to Legalize Medical Cannabis After Governor Ivey Signs Off On Bill On Monday, Alabama Governor Kay Ivey signed off on the state’s medical cannabis bill, SB 46, making Alabama the 36th state to legalize medical cannabis. Gov. Ivey thanked Sen. Tim Melson and Rep. Mike Ball for leading efforts on legalization over the years. In a press release, the Governor stated, “As research evolves, Sen. Melson and I discussed how critical it is to continue finding ways to work on this to ensure we have a productive, safe and responsible operation in Alabama.” Patients can qualify through several approved conditions, including but not limited to Tourette’s syndrome, Parkinson’s disease, cancer, Crohn’s disease, HIV/AIDS, autism and epilepsy. “This is certainly a sensitive and emotional issue and something that is continually being studied. On the state level, we have had a study group that has looked closely at this issue, and I am interested in the potential good medical cannabis can have for those with chronic illnesses or what it can do to improve the quality of life of those in their final days,” Gov. Ivey said.
