Wednesday on The Robert Scott Bell Show:
An ambitious California bill would put the state in charge of controlling prices in the commercial healthcare market In one of the most aggressive efforts in the nation to curb soaring healthcare spending, a new California measure would put the state in charge of setting prices for hospital stays, doctor’s visits and most other medical services covered by commercial insurers. The bill, backed by labor unions and consumer groups, is certain to rouse fierce opposition from physicians and hospitals, setting the stage for a brawl between some of the Capitol’s top lobbying heavyweights. Proponents also face friction on the left from advocates of single-payer healthcare, who espouse an alternate vision of how to overhaul the state’s healthcare.
FDA Seeks Comments on Cannabis, THC and CBD The Food and Drug Administration has officially put out a call for public comments on cannabis, THC and CBD to bring to the World Health Organization later this year. This call for public comment is just a single step in a years-long process of the WHO considering a change in its cannabis policy. The United States is a signee of the 1971 Convention on Psychotropic Substances. That means that when the WHOnotifies the U.S. under Article 2 of the convention that it has information that may warrant a substance being added to the control list or having a current schedule changed, the Secretary of State must send the notice to the Secretary of Health and Human Services. On Monday, this procedure was kicked into action, and a noticewas published in the Federal Register, the daily bulletin of the federal government, calling for experts to submit comments on cannabis. All of those comments are supposed to contribute to the final U.S. testimony prepared by HHS. In this case, experts have two weeks to submit their testimony.
Stopping long-term opioid therapy has no effect on pain levels: study Patients taking opioids to manage their pain reported no change in their level of pain after discontinuing long-term opioid use, according to a new study that will be presented at the Society of Behavioral Medicine’s annual conference in New Orleans on Thursday (April 11). Researchers examined the electronic health records of 600 patients in a national database maintained by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for a year. They found that patients on average experienced no difference in pain after stopping long-term use of opioid to help manage their pain.

Screening Snacks May Be Part Of Stricter Airport Security Be prepared to pull out your pretzels
or show your sandwich when you go through security at Denver International Airport. These days, snacks and other items may be part of screening at airports across the country. There are no changes to what you’re allowed to carry on, but the screening at security has become stricter. It used to be just laptops had to be in a separate bin and then x-rayed. But recently, the Transportation Security Administration required screening for all electronics larger than a cell phone. There has also been a focus on other items, including food. “I think that screening snacks seems a little pointless,” said one traveler at DIA.

US Reportedly Mulls ‘Powerful Strike’ on Syria, 22 Targets Include Russian Sites US President Donald Trump has canceled his trip to South America in response to the alleged use of chemical weapons by the Syrian government forces in the city of Douma in Eastern Ghouta. Moscow and Damascus, for their part, are pressing for a fair investigation into the allegations, maintaining that it was a false flag attack. Last week, several media outlets reported, citing militants, that Damascus had dropped a chlorine bomb on Douma, which allegedly claimed up to 70 lives. While the United States has held the Syrian authorities accountable for the alleged attack, Bashar al-Assad’s government has vehemently dismissed the allegations, insisting that the entire incident was staged.
Astonishing California Bill Proposes to Shut Down Free Speech California: Bill SB 1424 requires all social media and internet websites that have physical presence in the state to verify news stories that are shared on their websites using fact checkers. The goal of the bill is to silence critics of official narratives using so-called fact checkers who would come from government supported groups who agree with the official positions. California State Senator Richard Pan, who was behind the infamous mandatory vaccine bill of 2015, is introducing this legislation.
FDA now wants to eliminate side effect warnings from drug ads in latest collusion with
Big Pharma We’ve all seen those drug commercials on TV with pleasant-looking grandparents frolicking in a grassy field with an adorable puppy, living life to the fullest while an announcer talks about how Big Pharma’s latest poison is going to make your life every bit as joyful. Then comes the obligatory rushed reading of a list of side effects. When the commercial is over, the general impression is a positive one: This drug is going to make your life better, but you might have a few minor problems like drowsiness.

UK Plans to Add ‘Knife Control’ Regulations as Murder Rate Rises Most of the murders in the
UK are from knife attacks, as the nation has some of the strictest gun control laws in the world, and they are now considering knife control laws. The murder rate in the UK has surpassed that of New York, and more than 50 people have been killed there so far this year.
