Thursday on The Robert Scott Bell Show:

Sacred Fire of Liberty!

It’s that time of the week where we get to explore the political healing that this country needs so desperately! Jonathan Emord is back to help us dissect the latest political news that’s fit to print:

Headlines lacking context exploited by anti-vaccine activists to wrongly suggest danger, study finds News organizations are at risk of “creating false connections and misinformation” when they write headlines that suggest a link between vaccinations and deaths or other health problems where one does not necessarily exist, according to a new study published by the non-partisan non-profit organization Advance Democracy. The findings, which were provided to CNN Business, show that headlines that, while sometimes factually accurate, are posted with “little to no context” are spread online and “weaponized” by anti-vaccination groups on Facebook where they amass thousands of interactions. Three articles from local news sites gained more than 800,000 interactions on Facebook, the study found. One of these local news headlines, for example, read, “Health care worker dies after second dose of COVID vaccine, investigations underway.” “[Anti-vaccination activists] are using these headlines to confirm the false information they believe about the dangers of vaccines, which is just scientifically wrong,” Daniel J. Jones, the president of Advance Democracy, told CNN Business. “What these headlines do,” Jones added, “is give these anti-vax groups fodder to say, ‘See, I told you so.'” Advance Democracy describes itself as an “an independent, non-partisan organization that conducts global investigations to promote accountability, transparency, and good governance.”

Rand Paul: If You Want More People Vaccinated Biden Should ‘Burn His Mask’ and Say Vaccine Means You’re Safe On Wednesday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “The Story,” Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) said that “If you want more people to get vaccinated, Joe Biden should go on national TV, take his mask off, and burn it” and say, “I am now safe from this plague. If you’ll get the vaccine, you can be safe, too.” Paul said, “Well, you might get run over by a car, you might get hit by a meteor. Science is about proving that things are happening. If Dr. Fauci can prove that people who are vaccinated are spreading the disease, I will listen to him. If he can prove that people like me who have already had it are spreading the disease, I’ll listen to him. But there is no evidence of that. If you want more people to get vaccinated, Joe Biden should go on national TV, take his mask off, and burn it. Light a torch to it and burn his mask and say, I’ve had the vaccine. I am now safe from this plague. If you’ll get the vaccine, you can be safe, too. But instead, they say, well, the vaccine might not work, in some sort of planetary world we’re not aware of, the vaccine might not work. Well, there’s no evidence of it. The burden of proof should be on the government to prove that we are spreading it, and then we’ll listen to them. But instead, it sounds sort of like fear-mongering.”

National Parents’ Organization Calls for States to Ban Critical Race Theory in K-12 Schools A national parents’ organization that grew out of the battle against the Common Core State Standards is calling for state legislatures to ban Critical Race Theory (CRT) in K-12 schools. U.S. Parents Involved in Education (USPIE) is urging states to ban CRT, a movement that promotes the interpretation of most aspects of society through the lens of race. The call comes as the Biden education department proposed a rule Monday supporting the development of “culturally responsive teaching” in American history and civics. In its proposed rule, the U.S. Education Department held up the widely discredited New York Times’ “1619 Project” as a model for schools to teach children the United States is fundamentally a racist nation. “The Biden administration’s proposal for American History and Civics Education programs is a federal bribe akin to the Race-to-the-Top grants that landed the failed Common Core Standards in nearly every state,” USPIE told Breitbart News. “The federal grant funds combined with the Civics Secures Democracy Act of 2021 will justify advocates of these harmful programs and make it easier for state and local officials to resist parents and community efforts to block the overreach of the federal government.”

Proposed Supreme Court Expansion Remains Unpopular House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) distanced herself last week from a Democratic bill that would add four seats to the Supreme Court, and a new Morning Consult/Politico poll helps to explain why she was quick to nip the plan in the bud: The idea is still broadly unpopular among the American electorate. In the April 16-19 survey, voters were 20 percentage points more likely, at 46 percent, to say Congress should only allow nine justices to serve on the high court than they were to be in favor of passing a law to add more Supreme Court jurists. Those numbers were essentially unchanged from a Morning Consult/Politico survey conducted in the fall, reflecting a continued lack of public appetite for what has been an increasing source of interest for liberal activists since Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky blocked consideration of Merrick Garland, then-President Barack Obama’s appointee to the court, in 2016. Both surveys were conducted among roughly 2,000 registered voters, with respective margins of error of 2 points.  In remarks to reporters at the Capitol on April 15, Pelosi said she does not intend to bring the bill to the floor after it was introduced that day in a news conference by House Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.), Sen. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) and others. Instead, the House speaker reiterated her support for President Joe Biden’s plan for a bipartisan commission to study the issue.

House Dems ready to pass DC statehood Thursday, call on Senate to end filibuster to do same Democratic leaders Wednesday predicted passage of Washington, D.C. statehood legislation in the House and called on the Senate to end the filibuster now to create the 51st state in the union. “I hope that the filibuster is jettisoned,” House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., said Wednesday. “It is not a democratic principle that a minority can … stop the majority. “With the movement of the filibuster, there will be movement for D.C. statehood,” added the district’s non-voting lone congressional member, Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton. “And I do believe that the filibuster is on its way out.” The lawmakers, along with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, spoke during a Capitol news conference Wednesday about the merits of granting the District of Columbia statehood. The House is slated to vote on the D.C. statehood legislation Thursday and Hoyer said he expected the bill will pass with all or nearly all House Democrats in support. President Biden supports D.C. statehood and would sign the legislation into law.  The biggest challenge, however, will be in the 50-50 split Senate. With the legislative filibuster still in place, the statehood bill would require 60 votes to advance. Hoyer said Wednesday he hoped the Senate will change the “undemocratic” filibuster and would allow the statehood bill to pass in the upper chamber with a simple majority, like the House.

Hour 2: Brian Hooker PhD,PE

Brian S. Hooker, PhD, PE, is an Associate Professor of Biology at Simpson University in Redding, California, where he specializes in chemistry and biology coursework. Additionally, Hooker is the Senior Process Consultant at ARES Corporation, working closely on process design for the environment restoration industry. He has a teenage son with autism and has been active in the autism community since 2002.

Nation Faces ‘Hand-to-Hand Combat’ to Get Reluctant Americans Vaccinated Now that President Biden has met his goal to have all adults eligible for the coronavirus vaccine, health officials around the country are hitting what appears to be a soft ceiling: More than half the nation’s adults have received at least one dose, but it is going to take hard work — and some creative changes in strategy — to convince the rest. State health officials, business leaders, policymakers and politicians are struggling to figure out how to tailor their messages, and their tactics, to persuade not only the vaccine hesitant but also the indifferent. Officials in many states are looking past mass vaccination sites and toward having patients get vaccinated by their own doctors, where people are most at ease — a shift that will require the Biden administration to ship vaccine in much smaller quantities. White House and state health officials are calling this next phase of the vaccination campaign “the ground game,” and are likening it to a get-out-the-vote effort. The work will be labor intensive — much of it may fall on private employers — but the risk is clear: If it takes too long to reach “herd immunity,” the point at which the spread of the virus slows, worrisome new variants could emerge that evade the vaccine. “If you think of this as a war,” said Michael Carney, the senior vice president for emerging issues at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, “we’re about to enter the hand-to-hand combat phase of the war.”

US may soon reach ‘tipping point’ on COVID vaccine ‘enthusiasm’: report The US will likely reach a “tipping point” over the next few weeks when supply of the COVID-19 vaccine will outpace those willing to receive it, according to a report released this week.  “While timing may differ by state, we estimate that across the U.S. as a whole we will likely reach a tipping point on vaccine enthusiasm in the next 2 to 4 weeks,” the nonprofit Kaiser Family Foundation said in the report published Tuesday. “Once this happens, efforts to encourage vaccination will become much harder, presenting a challenge to reaching the levels of herd immunity that are expected to be needed,” the report said. Health experts have estimated that at least 70 percent of the country’s population — and as many as 90 percent — will need to be vaccinated against the virus in order for the nation to achieve herd immunity. To date, more than 134 million people in the US — or 40.5 percent of the population — has received at least one vaccine dose since inoculation efforts began in December, according to data from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Texas Ended Lockdowns and Mask Mandates. Now Locked-Down States Are Where Covid Is Growing Most Early last month, Texas governor Greg Abbott announced he would end the state’s mask mandate and allow most businesses to function at 100 percent capacity. The response from the corporate media and the Left was predictable. California governor Gavin Newsom declared the move “absolutely reckless.” Beto O’Rourke called the GOP a “cult of death.” Joe Biden called the move “Neanderthal thinking.” Keith Olbermann insisted, “Texas has decided to join the side of the virus” and suggested Texans shouldn’t be allowed to take the covid vaccine. Vanity Fair ran an article with the title “Republican Governors Celebrate COVID Anniversary with Bold Plan to Kill Another 500,000 Americans.” Other states have followed in Texas’s wake, and Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, and Georgia are now all states where covid restrictions range from weak to nonexistent. Georgia and Florida, of course, are both notable for ending lockdowns and restriction much earlier than many other states. And in those cases as well, the state governments were criticized for their policies, which were said to be reckless and sure to lead to unprecedented death. Georgia’s policy was denounced as an experiment in “human sacrifice.” Yet in recent weeks, these predictions about Texas’s fate have proven to be spectacularly wrong. Moreover, many of the states with the worst growth in covid cases—and the worst track records in overall death counts—have been states that have had some of the harshest lockdowns. The failure of the lockdown narrative in this case has been so overwhelming that last week, when asked about the Texas situation, Anthony Fauci could only suggest a few unconvincing lines about how maybe Texans are voluntarily wearing masks and locking down more strenuously than people in other states. In Fauci’s weak-sauce explanation we see a narrative that simply fails to explain the actual facts of the matter.

Amount of Aluminum in Infant Vaccines ‘Akin to a Lottery,’ Researchers Say The Defender recently wrote about Keele University’s decision to cut off the primary funding stream — charitable donations — for the world-famous UK-based aluminum research group, led by bioinorganic chemistry professor Christopher Exley, Ph.D. As the direct result of Keele’s actions, the Exley lab will close Aug. 31, ending three decades of independent, cutting-edge research elucidating aluminum’s effects on health across the human lifespan. Even in the face of their lab’s imminent closure, the Exley group continues to publish and add to its already impressive roster of approximately 200 publications. The researchers’ two latest studies — one focusing on the largely unmonitored aluminum content of infant vaccines, the other on the strong association of aluminum in familial Alzheimer’s disease — underscore why independent research is so important, and so threatening to the status quo. One of the studies, published in the Journal of Trace Elements in Medicine and Biology, found the amount of aluminum an infant receives in a vaccine, far from being predictable or controlled, seems to be “akin to a lottery.” The group analyzed the aluminum content of 13 infant vaccines manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline, Merck, Sanofi Pasteur and Pfizer. In 10 of 13 vaccines, the measured quantity of aluminum failed to match up to the amount of aluminum reported by manufacturers in patient information leaflets.
