Monday on The Robert Scott Bell Show:
The great Ad Hominem: why can’t vaccine lobbyists address deficiencies in vaccine science instead of attacking critics Even at times of national emergency the reasons for going to war are debated, but here there is no national emergency – or the only one cited is the existence of vaccine critics, collectively labelled “anti-vaxxers”, who are clearly very bad people. It may very well be because of the sheer intolerance and totalitarianism of the vaccine lobby that popular movements against them are emerging in places like California and Italy (where thousands are taking to the street now week after week).Previously the British Medical Association has taken the sensible view that to make vaccination compulsory would alienate trust, and while people like myself might dispute the real grounds for trust existed the strategy seemed to work – obviously it ceases to work at all once compulsion comes into play. Equally if the safety of products is removed from public discussion and scrutiny, as has now been the case for ordinary purposes for many years, the claims for safety will only become empty: no more than a successful exercise in social control. What we see in this correspondence and one or two others recently [1,2,3] are people, admittedly including conspicuously myself, engaging in rational debate, about the failure of evidence. The problems arise from (a) ruthlessly disregarding reports of adverse events and harms, (b) ignoring and burying troubling data, and (c) over-confidence and insufficient distance from government towards an industry which has historically put profits above people.
The Miserable Pseudo-Science Behind Face Masks, Social Distancing And Contact Tracing Once upon a time, there was something called science. It included the discovery of truth about nature, the elements, the universe, etc. It was practiced by honest and accountable practitioners called scientists and engineers. They often invented cool new things as a result of their studies, but generally they had no primal urge to use their knowledge to dominate other people, groups or even entire societies. Then certain other scientists and engineers rose up and made a discovery of their own. If true science was ever-so-slightly skewed and engineering disciplines were applied to society at large, then they could indeed use their “knowledge” to dominate and control other people, groups, entire societies or even, heaven forbid, the entire planet.Merriam-Webster defines pseudo-science as “a system of theories, assumptions, and methods erroneously regarded as scientific.” The Oxford dictionary clarifies by stating, “a collection of beliefs or practices mistakenly regarded as being based on scientific method.“Pseudo-science quickly emerged as the principal domain of Technocrats, but they soon found that scientific debate with those promoting real science was most inconvenient to their social engineering goals. The solution was simple: claim that their own pseudo-science was indeed the real science, and then refuse debate by excluding all other voices to the contrary. In the context of pseudo-science, this report will examine the three primary tools of fighting COVID-19: face masks, social distancing and contact tracing.
Sweden Did in Fact Lock Down When it Came to Care Homes Sweden has been a political football in the argument over whether lockdowns work. Lockdown enthusiasts point to the higher death rate than in other Scandinavian countries while skeptics point out that the rate is lower than Italy, Spain and the UK. But the more important question is why the death rate is in the middle. The answer is because Sweden actually did lock down, in the most important way. Before I defend this counter-intuitive position it is important to note that the term “COVID-19 lockdown” is not well defined. In several countries people were confined to their homes, but in other places, such as in my province of Alberta, Canada, people could go out, although they would find that all restaurants, bars, playgrounds, concert halls, swimming pools and shopping malls were closed. In reality every country’s lockdown (and in places like the United States and Canada, every state, province and even city) was different. In Alberta, Canada, when hair salons were opened, massages were still banned, but in Ontario, hair salons were banned but massages were allowed.Sweden only chose two dishes from the lockdown menu: banning large group events and visitors to hospitals and nursing homes.1If we were God, we could assign two values to every item on the lengthy lockdown menu: the number of lives saved from death by SARS-CoV-2, and the number of deaths caused by that aspect of the lockdown.
Americans Should Never Again Comply With Pandemic Lockdown Orders We’re told a second wave of coronavirus infections is coming. As businesses open back up and states relax lockdown orders, the number of new cases is ticking up in a handful of states. We’ve heard warnings in recent days from the Centers for Disease Control and various public health experts and elected officials that a new series of lockdowns might be necessary. What these experts and officials don’t seem to realize is that Americans will never comply with their lockdown orders again. They have burned their credibility to the ground, and they no longer have the moral authority to tell us what to do.Simply put, the people in charge have shown themselves to be rank hypocrites who care more about politics than science. For months, we were told that large gatherings were deadly because of the coronavirus, but when protests broke out in late May, large gatherings were suddenly okay. The exact day the experts lost their credibility was June 4, when more than 1,000 public health workers signed a letter claiming the protests were “vital to the national public health and to the threatened health specifically of black people in the United States.” The woke corporate press scrambled to assure us this wasn’t hypocritical at all, and that “health is about more than simply remaining free of coronavirus infection,” as a pair of epidemiologists put it in The Atlantic.
Question of The Day:
I listened to your June 5 presentation. I’m interested in your homeopathics. Can you send me the link? I looked around your website and couldn’t find them. Thank you.
Hour 2: Special Guest-Chris Barr!
Fauci: Americans ignoring science during pandemic is “frustrating” Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s leading infectious diseases expert, is frustrated about the nation’s inability to stop the continued spread of coronavirus, which he says is largely because Americans aren’t following recommended health guidelines.”Clearly, we have not succeeded in getting the public as a whole, uniformly to respond in a way that is a sound scientific [response to a] public health and medical situation. I mean, it is clear because right now, you’re seeing people throughout the country [contracting the virus]. And it’s unfortunate. And it’s frustrating,” Fauci told CBS News Radio’s Steven Portnoy in an interview Friday morning.”It’s a combination of leadership on the one hand, but even sometimes, when the leadership calls out for people to obey certain types of guidelines, they don’t do it. I mean, they — and that is very frustrating. And that’s the reason why we’re seeing the burst of infections that we’re seeing right now in our country,” Fauci said. The problem isn’t the guidance from local leaders. “In many states and cities, you have the leadership actually giving the right guideline instruction.
Doctors drop ball, prove why they’re untrustworthy on COVID-19 For months now, medical professionals, health wonks and infectious diseases’ experts have taken front and center on the political stage, advising, recommending, guiding and warning Americans into staying home, staying out of work, staying off the streets and beaches and out of restaurants and parks, stores and gyms — frightening the good people of the nation into wearing stupid masks on their faces if they dare step outside their doors, even for a moment. Now they’re saying their warnings of gloom and doom and death may have, whoops, sort of, kind of, oops actually placed children around the world in danger. Fatal danger.“Slowing the Coronavirus Is Speeding the Spread of Other Diseases,” MSN just reported.Say what? Apparently, doctors have dropped the ball. They’ve been so busily fighting COVID-19, and telling a nation, nay a world, how to best fight COVID-19, that they’ve taken their eyes off other diseases. And now children are dying, or predicted to die, because of their incompetence. “This spring,” MSN wrote, “after the World Health Organization and UNICEF warned that the [coronavirus] pandemic could spread swiftly when children gathered for shots, many countries suspended their inoculation programs. Even in countries that tried to keep them going, cargo flights with vaccine supplies were halted by the pandemic and health workers diverted to fight it.”The result has been diphtheria in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal; cholera in South Sudan, Cameroon, Mozambique, Yemen and Bangladesh; measles everywhere; and a strain of poliovirus in 30-plus countries. “Of 29 countries that have currently suspended measles campaigns because of the pandemic, 18 are reporting outbreaks,” the news outlet reported
Coronavirus antibodies start to decrease ‘within 2 to 3 months’ following COVID-19 infection: study Those who contract the novel coronavirus and recover may only have protective antibodies for a few months following a COVID-19 infection, according to a study published this week.Researchers from China found that those who recover from the virus may only have protective antibodies for two to three months following infection, according to a study published Thursday in the journal Nature Medicine.Researchers studying coronavirus patients in the Wanzhou District of China compared the antibody response of 37 asymptomatic people to that of 37 symptomatic people. By the end, the researchers found that about 81 percent of asymptomatic people had a reduction in neutralizing antibodies, while only 62 percent of symptomatic patients reported the same. What’s more, about 40 percent of asymptomatic people became seronegative for coronavirus antibodies, meaning their antibodies fell to undetectable levels. Meanwhile, only 12.9 percent of symptomatic patients became seronegative.”We observed that IgG levels and neutralizing antibodies in a high proportion of individuals who recovered from SARS-CoV-2 infection start to decrease within 2–3 months after infection,” the researchers wrote.“These data suggest that asymptomatic individuals had a weaker immune response to SARS-CoV-2 infection.
Signs of Type 2 diabetes might begin to appear in childhood People at risk for Type 2 diabetes as adults might start to show signs of the disease as early as 8 years old, a study published Friday by the journal Diabetes Care found. At that age, common signs of Type 2 diabetes, such as reduced HDL cholesterol levels and elevated LDL cholesterol levels, begin to appear, the researchers said.By age 16, other warning signs such as increased inflammation and levels of amino acids in the blood are also apparent, they said.”Diabetes is most common in older age, but we see signs of disease susceptibility very early on — about 50 years before it’s usually diagnosed,” study co-author Joshua Bell said in a statement.”Knowing what these early signs look like widens our window of opportunity to intervene much earlier and stop diabetes before it becomes harmful,” said Bell, an epidemiologist at the University of Bristol in England.More than 30 million adults in the United States have type 2 diabetes, according to the American Diabetes Association. Most people were well into their 40s by the time they were diagnosed, research indicates.Bell and colleagues conducted the research among more than 4,000 young people enrolled in the Children of the 90s project — a health study established at the University of Bristol.Participants were generally free of Type 2 diabetes and other chronic diseases, in order to see how early in life susceptibility to adult diabetes becomes visible, they said.
These 9 hand sanitizers may be toxic, FDA warns Heads up, consumers: If you’re using hand sanitizer to help protect against the novel coronavirus, a federal agency over the weekend warned that at least nine such products should be avoided because they may contain a toxic chemical. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) over the weekend announced that at least nine hand sanitizers made by Eskbiochem SA de CV in Mexico may be toxic “due to the potential presence of methanol (wood alcohol), a substance that can be toxic when absorbed through the skin or ingested.”“Methanol is not an acceptable ingredient for hand sanitizers and should not be used due to its toxic effects,” the FDA continued. “Consumers who have been exposed to hand sanitizer containing methanol should seek immediate treatment, which is critical for potential reversal of toxic effects of methanol poisoning.”
